OBITUARY

Dr. David S. Ginsburg, 82

Beloved husband for 63 years of Dale Barnett Ginsburg. Loving father of Steven (Cindy) Ginsburg and Marc (Eva) Ginsburg. Proud grandfather of Charlie, Ellie, Max, Jaden and Ariel. Dear brother of Arnold (Susan) Ginsburg, Linda (Eli) Dayan and Ivy (Tim) Dixon.

David and Dale met in the seventh grade. Dale was entranced by him talking about his favorite book “Relativity”, by Albert Einstein. After three years at the University of Michigan, they were married and moved back to Chicago where David began medical school at the University of Chicago. He remained there through his internship and residency, and then moved to Northwestern medical school for his fellowship in nephrology. After three years on the staff at Northwestern, David and Dale moved to Highland Park where David went into private practice and Dale worked side-by-side with him as his office manager for the first seven years. Shortly thereafter, he became instrumental in the creation of the first dialysis unit at Highland Park hospital, where he remained the medical director for the rest of his career.

While David retired at sixty-five, he was always on call for his friends and family. He also volunteered his time and medical services until just a few years ago. He also returned to Northwestern where his passion and love for teaching showed no bounds.

It was not just medicine and teaching that he was passionate about. He found remarkable solace in the Rockies, and comfort in Ezio Pinza and John Denver. He was inspired by pieces from Leonardo and could talk about history for hours.

While his passions for music, art, history and medicine were unwavering, there was one thing that David loved above all else, and that was his family. David was blessed with two loving, loyal sons, Steven (Cindy) and Marc (Eva), and five adoring grandchildren, all who surrounded and comforted him during his illness. Gramps, as his grandchildren affectionately called him, loved Charlie, Ellie, Max, Jaden and Ariel deeply, purely and wholly. David was his grandchildren’s favorite teacher, but what they did not realize was that he learned greatly from them as well. David also had great love and respect for the rest of his family and close friends of which there were many.

Lastly, was his relationships with his sons Steven and Marc. He loved them beyond all, respected them, and felt an immense amount of pride and joy in them.

He left us with a smile on his face because he was surrounded by his sons, and Dale, his beloved wife of sixty-three years. They shared a lifetime full of adventure, love and devotion. May his memory be a blessing.

Service Sunday 1PM at Temple Sholom, 3480 North Lake Shore Drive, Chicago, Illinois 60657. Interment Westlawn Cemetery, 7801 West Montrose Avenue, Norridge, Illinois 60706. What a special guy. We always had the most interesting conversations. I will miss his smile and his sly way of challenging me on many topics.

I am sad to hear that David has passed away . I have many good memories of sharing wine , food and laughs with him. I always enjoyed our political discussions, though we seldom agreed but we did so in a spirit of friendship . He and Dale were our guests when we lived in Italy . It was a pleasure to share our “ inside “ information with them .

My condolences to Dale

My sincerest condolences. David was such a source of light and an outstanding human. I will never forget how he showed up for my family during my father’s fight with cancer. I’m so grateful David and his family were part of my family’s life. There will forever be a David-shaped hole in the world.

Dear Dale,
It has been many years since we socialized in the early years of David and Ed’s practices in Highland Park. Still, good memories linger long and you have accumulated many.
He was a treasured father, husband and grandparent
My sympathies are with you at this time

Sending my heartfelt condolence to the Ginsburg family. Losing a loved one to death bring both pain and sorrow, but the good memories and support from friends helps us to cope and move forward. I was a patient of Doctor Ginsburg, and you truly could tell he was a Physcian who cared about his patients, loved his profession and cared about people in general. After he retired he left me in the hands of a truly professional caring Physician with care and concern as he had, and who had worked with him closely. May you find comfort in these verses found in the Holy Scriptures at Isaiah 57:15 and Psalm 34:19 as the days move forward.

I got to know David thru our New Yorker Group -a group of gentlemen who share their wisdom, intellectual curiosity and more by reviewing New Yorker articles every month. We all appreciated David's input especially in the field of medicine -he will be really missed.

David and I were never in the same physical space, but we knew each other through the medium of our zoomed NEW YORKER magazine monthly discussion group. In that space, I always felt that we discovered a bond over our shared appreciation of quiet subtle humor, and for feelings for the underprivileged locally and internationally. David's soaring intelligence, encyclopedic knowledge of history, and sensitive humility, were always evident. In addition to the void he leaves in the wider world, he will be hugely missed in our modest monthly one.

god speed, David. Feeling condolences to his family

Dear Dale and family,
We had the good fortune of meeting you through David and Bonnie, and enjoying wonderful years watching plays at the Court theater, going out to dinners, and having stimulating discussions about the plays, politics and Jewish affairs.
Today we realized that we are not the only one’s that think so highly about David, and his many attributes and contributions .
Much love
