OBITUARY

Steven M. Selan, 78

Beloved husband of Janisse Selan née Appelblatt. Loving father of Jeremy (Julie) Selan and Daniel (Anna) Selan. Proud grandfather of Eric, Sofia and Olivia. Brother Fred Selan and sister Elysa (Allen) Saltzman.

Steven M. Selan passed on Friday, July 24, 2026. He was born on October 6, 1947 in Chicago -- though Steve’s life actually began at age 23 when he met his future wife, Janisse. Steve was a worker’s compensation lawyer, and met Jan at Lord, Bissell and Brook on a Wednesday in 1971. They went out the following Tuesday, were engaged that Sunday, and were married for over 54 years.

Steve, throughout his life, never lost his childhood nature. He was always a jokester. He loved model trains, model cars, real cars, remote-controlled airplanes, model rockets, radios, and other toys. He shared those loves with his children and grandchildren.

Steve was a big personality full of warmth, generosity, and humor. He was an honest man with a big heart, and was esteemed by family, friends, and his clients. The people who encountered him had lives richer for it, and he will be dearly missed.

Service - Tuesday 10AM at Chicago Jewish Funerals, 8851 Skokie Blvd (at Niles Center Road), Skokie. Internment - Zion Gardens Cemetery (6758 West Addison, Chicago). In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice. Arrangements by Chicago Jewish Funerals - Skokie Chapel, 847.229.8822, www.cjfinfo.com
