I met Allen 3 years ago while walking in his neighbourhood. Strangers became friends immediately. We shared our stories with each other and I knew right away how fortunate I was to have met him. His kindness was intoxicating. I can only imagine how he has influenced people over the years. Allen seemed to understand much of my life and certainly cared for my well being. His advice and experience were extremely moving to me and I admired and respected the man more each time we spoke. Allen displayed to me a humility and grace I have seldom seen. I am so very grateful to have met him. I regret not having met him sooner and not having known him longer. However, our time together was amazingly comfortable and I will ALWAYS cherish those encounters. What a wonderful man I happened to meet. His memory will stay with me and I will fondly reflect on a man I hardly knew. I can say that I met beautiful man and I was able to tell him I loved him before he passed. How blessed am I to have shared those moments with Allen. Rest in PEACE my friend. I will do my best to honour you by heeding your sage advice. I cannot question how or why we met, but will be amazed and delighted by the fact that we did.
Thank You Allen
God Bless

Allen was a real mensch. I've known him my entire life as he was my mother's first cousin. While the family was all in Chicago, we would see each other often. My mother was 19 when Allen was born and she told me the following: "I went to see the new baby and asked what his English name was going to be. They said Alexander. I said, that's such a long name for a small baby. Why not call him Allen." Allen was always very warm, caring, kind, and generous of spirit. When my own son was born many years later and we wanted his English name to start with an A (named after my father-in-law Aharon), I immediately thought of Allen Lapporte. We named our oldest son Alan, who also became a very warm, kind, caring, and generous man. I have lived way from Chicago my entire adult life and whenever I spoke with Allen on the phone he always asked about members of my family by name, one by one. He was a lovely person and his memory is truly a blessing.
