Shael Bellows was a kindhearted and generous man. I had the honor to work for him, and like many people, I considered him a role model. May everyone who knew him be willing to share his wisdom to honor his legacy of mentoring others. My heart hurts for Joan, their children and especially their grandchildren. Shael accomplished many great successes in his life, but nothing made him beam with pride more than sharing stories about his beloved grandchildren.

Dear Joan and the entire Bellows Mishpacha,
It’s hard to believe that a man so great is gone from this world. Shael truly lived with a love for Am Yisrael , Eretz Yisrael and Torat Yisrael. I will always remember his opening Divrei Torah for the Matan Bellows Eshkolot fellows as he inspired them - and me, to be our best selves and the best Torah teachers and leaders we could be !

Dear Joan and the entire Bellows family,
Our hearts are with you. You were zoche to live with and to grow up in the light of a husband, abba, sabba of such greatness and deep kindness, humor, love, and devotion to his family to Am Yisrael and to Torah. He extended that to so many in the Chicago community, in Israel, and his love and legacy lives on in his family, in the people, communities and institutions he gave to, founded. Gadol mraban shmo. May you be comforted among the mourners of Tzion and Yerushalayim.

Rabbi Bellows was a special mentor and friend to me.

From high school, to Beis medrash to Kollel and then professionally in Agudah and HCCI. He was always there. Always. Pro actively helping.

I will cherish those memories and try to live up to the standards he expected from me. I am so sad that I can’t just call or text him any longer.

May his memory forever be a blessing.

Joanie and family,

What a loss, Shael Bellows. A rabbi, a lawyer, a leader on the health care industry, a real mensch, and a true friend. Always with a touch of class.

Dear Joan, Daniela, Moshe, and Yoni (your children that we know) and the entire family,

We loved meeting you and exchanging family news whenever we saw you and Shae z"zl. Nahum enjoyed his discussions with Shael and, after those conversations, expressed his desire to know Shael better. Shael was a great man for his community, and I am Yisrael, but the tributes of the children and grandchildren most touched us. Daniella, you regaled me about the wonderful Pesachim you had in Florida.... with such glee, happiness, and pride in what your father did for his family to make the mitzvah of Maid come alive. and be fun for everyone.

I was both stunned and terribly saddened upon learning the news of his passing.
He was the definition of a gentleman… a warm and caring individual… a learned Talmud of RIETS.
His easy going demeanor exuded a feeling of trust and
and friendship.
Judy and I send our wishes of Nechama….
May Joan and her family find consolation in the memories they share.. and may they celebrate many Smachot in the future in good health.

I will always remember Shael as being very kind, smart and articulate. When he spoke, everyone tended to listen. He was a pioneer in the Chicago nursing home industry and I was honored to call him a client and friend for 25 years.

Sincere condolences to the Bellows family.
