OBITUARY

Mitchell Jay Weiss, of Buffalo Grove, Illinois, passed away on April 20, 2026 surrounded by his family after a difficult six-month journey with stomach cancer. Despite the struggles, Mitchell bravely sought treatment to spend as much meaningful time as he could with his family and loved ones.

When Mitchell was diagnosed in October 2025, he and his sons set a goal to make it to the Chicago Cubs Opening Day in 2026 at Wrigley Field. They made it, and he made sure to let everyone know they made it. It was his first opening day in person with his Cubbies. He saved all his energy for that day, and he and his boys smiled and laughed and cried the entire afternoon. Shortly thereafter, he entered hospice and passed a few weeks later. Mitchell said it was the happiest day since his diagnosis and among the happiest of his life.

Mitchell is survived by his wife of 29 years, Deborah Dunn Weiss, and two sons, Max (28) and Ari (26 in less than a week). Mitchell was also a beloved doggy dad to Bentley.

Mitchell is also survived by his brothers David (wife Grace, niece Shayna, nephew Andrew and Sarah and great-nephew Julian, and niece Abby) Weiss, and Jeffrey Weiss (wife Leslee Broersma, nephew Izaak and Jenna, and niece Madeleine). Mitchell was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Inge Weiss.

Mitch was a special son-in-law to Elaine and the late William Dunn, and brother-in-law to the late Stephen Dunn (wife Shellie, nephews Nik, Ben and Ashly, great-niece Alexa, and great-nephews Owen and Logan), the late Jeffrey Dunn (wife Dana, nephew Matthew and Katie and great-nieces Riley and Zoey, nieces Elizabeth, Caroline and Andy, and Brooke), the late Cherie Dunn, and Deanne Dunn Friedman (husband Jeff, nieces Maddie and Matthew, Lexi, and Paige). Mitch was a source of strength to the entire Dunn Family.

Mitchell was also an over 30-year employee with ISI Telemangement Solutions, working his way up from an entry level employee to Director of Product Strategy, becoming an expert on Cisco and Microsoft. In the words of his co-worker and our friend Sam, he was everything to everybody at ISI.

I know from my own life that losing someone to cancer is a strange mix of both extended grieving but also an opportunity to celebrate someone's life while they are still here. Although it's been looming for some time, hearing of your father's death is nonetheless still devastating. That being said, I am glad for the opportunities you've had to spend time with him, especially getting to see Opening Day one last time. I hope you can take all the time you need during this difficult moment.
