Dearest Mike, Marla, Talah and Phoebe, I sincerely send you all my love and condolences . Marla you were an amazing daughter to your mum. Mike you were pretty good too as her son. I remember being with your Mother one and she proceeded to talk about how proud she was of Phoebe and Tallah. I agreed with her. Thinking about all of you ! Love Tracey Melcher

Marla and I “fixed up” our mothers when they both lived in Chicago. (Barbara on a part-time basis.) In spite of their casual vs high fashion differences(!), Barbara and Elaine realized they had many things in common. They loved being with their family. They enjoyed being active and social. Dining out and eating good food. Basically, they were always up for a good time! They also enjoyed theater and bought season tickets to the shows on Lincoln Avenue. Just the girls, out on the town! They grew to enjoy each other’s company and became very good friends. I lived out of town, but when I visited, we had Mother/Daughter get-togethers in Chicago, and in later years, Glenview. Barbara, Marla, my mom and I, playing mah jongg, lunching together, or just kibitzing. It didn’t matter what we did. We always had plenty of laughs and a great time. I will keep these warm, fond memories in my heart forever. Barbara was a treasured friend and a loving mother. And my dear friend, Marla, a doting and devoted daughter.

Since my friendship with Mike has spanned almost 40 years I remember meeting his mom graduation weekend to celebrate Mike.

Back then she was tough as nails...a fighter...a strong independent woman and a single mom for a long time. At that point in my own life I was too young to understand her presence but as an adult with two girls and so many hurdles to get past I understand.

She became my hero, my guide to be a strong and fierce mom and to keep moving forward.

Thank you for that and making me a better mom and to not be afraid.
