OBITUARY
Julian Isaac Newman, age 30
Cherished son of Heidi Goldfein and Dave Newman, beloved brother of Rena Yehuda Newman (Ed Davies), dear grandson of the late Mel and the late Judy Goldfein, the late Isidore and the late Evelyn Newman. He is mourned by a loving family of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Julian deeply valued family, especially his connection with his sibling Rena Yehuda. Their relationship was foundational to both of them.
Julian was a lover of languages and travel, and earned a Master’s Degree in International Trade from the Middlebury Institute of International Studies. He was an ardent explorer, spending time in countries as diverse as Kazakhstan, Russia, Hungary and Japan. A principled advocate for those on the margins, for many years he tutored immigrants in English through volunteer work with the Heartland Alliance.
Alongside his love of Russian and English, both of which he studied as an undergraduate at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, he was a competitive chess player throughout his life. He was a keen cyclist and someone who loved to read and grapple with complex ideas. Cooking and gardening had become recent passions.
He was often serious yet had the best smile – and his laughter was contagious. We will desperately miss all that and so much more.
