A kind woman who had only good things to say about everyone. A woman dedicated to Jewish causes and life here in Chicago.
She will be missed. Her life was a blessing.

We have lost a most elegant and humble  matriarch of a great Chicago family. For as long as we can remember the Matanky /Shiner/ Stopek families have been the cornerstone of our Jewish Community. Trude z"l was the guiding light and cohesive force that made for a beautiful, dedicated and close family for so many years. At all the events we attended together she was  a shining light with her smile, wonderful personality and love of Yiddishkite. Her extended family of Cong KINS gave her much nachas to be able to be a part of people that loved her and all she did for the community and Klal Yisrael. 44 great grandchildren is truly a blessing from Hashem. These future generations will have a beautiful loving and caring role model to follow. We hope and pray that the  memories you have  of this devoted Ashes Chayil will help you get thru these most difficult times.
We are sorry we cannot be there in person to help and comfort you.
May you be comforted among the mourners of Zion
.May her memory be for a blessing.

My family has always had a great relationship with Mrs. Matanky. My father, z"l, was pretty sure that, being from the same town in Europe, the Matankys must be related to us, and although we never found the link, we certainly felt it. When my father was niftar, Mrs. Matanky came to be menachem aveil. She came straight up to me - decades her junior - took me by the hand, and said that she had come to see me - "her friend". When we lived in Chicago, we always looked forward to seeing Mrs. Matanky in shul, and she noticed when we weren't there and asked about us.

I will miss her very much, and my family and I send words and deeds of condolence to Rabbi Matanky, all of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all of the Shiners.

With much love and admiration.

To the Matanky and Shiner Families, our loss is your loss. It has been a great zchut to have known Trude for 68 years. We used to call her Mom no 2, and with good reason. An amazing powerhouse, so kind and caring and loving, often incisive and honest, totally justified. She made you feel part of the family just for a Shabbat or for a simcha or event. Please be comforted by her amazing life, and together with Eugene Z"L, created a beautiful and extraordinary family, dedicated to Jewish values and traditions, all working tirelessly for the community and the Jewish people. Trude will live on in all our hearts, never forgotten, but terribly missed. May Hashem bring comfort to you all and may she be a "gutte beitter" for all her famiily and all of Am Yisrael.

We are so saddened about Trude’s loss! A profound loss, of course, for your family but really for the Chicago Jewish community and klal Israel. We remember her fondly from our days together at Ezras Israel, along with your dear father, z”l, and then seeing her as a regal presence whenever we visited KINS. She was so proud of all of her greatly accomplished children and grandchildren but she always asked first about our family and how everyone was doing. We last saw her over Pesach a few weeks ago when she was still sharp as ever and gracious as always. We were always so proud that our families are linked as relatives through your grandmother, Clara Shiner, a”h, and Stuart’s father, Joe Meisel, z”ll. May your cherished memories serve as a source of strength and comfort in this difficult time, knowing that she left behind an amazing legacy and example.

Our families have known each other for more than half a century, in business, in community activities, but more important as friends. It was with great sadness that we learned of Trude's passing. She still is remembered as the substitute teacher at Decatur who made sure that our daughter Sara didn't get her dress dirty during an arts and crafts period. That is among the more personal connections between our two families. We also found Trude to be kind and considerate, gentle but firm when she needed to be. Her place among the Women of Valor is assured for eternity. . .
