My best friend, Marshall, and I always called each other on our birthdays (he was born exactly 2 months before me), and I will certainly miss those exchanges in the future. I will never forget what a great, exceptional person and friend Marshall was. When trouble came along once in the person of a high-school age gang, Marshall was not a fighter but had to joke about it, and they asked if HE wanted to fight. Marshall did not answer, but I made it clear that I was ready to defend him to the death, and they knew it and left. When it came to my wedding to Leta, Marshall stood with me at our wedding at Sinai Temple. With sincere condolences for this great loss, Fred

Our heartfelt sympathy to all of you at this sad time. We so appreciate being included in this beautiful farewell to Fred's dearest friend, Marshall. Because we live so far away (in California,) we cannot attend Shiva. But Fred is writing of an incident he well recalls as he had sort of a protective instinct toward Marshall, who, as you know, was not a combative person, and preferred even in high school, to make a joke instead of a war...
Fred has always remembered their many years of friendship and has spoken so often of Marshall's incredible accomplishments, and contributions to society at large. To use this generations' term - Marshall was AWESOME! And, his family is also awesome! Dear Pat, you were the perfect wife and teammate...Marshall knew it, and we all know it. The two of you have been One - and an inspiration to all of us! With affection, Leta
