OBITUARY

Alan Richard Edelson, age 87

A proud Marine veteran. Beloved husband of Dianne Barbara Edelson, nee Fishman, "the most beautiful girl he had ever seen". Loving father of I. Steven (Carol) Edelson, Lisa (Scott) Gendell, and Nancy (Michael) Reinsdorf. Proud grandfather of Sammi, Andy (Juliette), Jeremy, Jonny, and Helen Edelson, Sam, Billy, Mikey (Erica) Gendell, and Lizzy (Jason) Grauer, and Jenny (Will) Fix, Joey and Harry. Alan had a storied career in finance where he initiated many innovative transactions. He loved baseball, football and golf and played each sport throughout his life. He was also a talented artist. He painted still life in oil and welded in both steel and bronze. Several of his works hang in private homes, as well as public venues. Throughout his life he enjoyed fishing as well as cooking. He was an avid reader and had a zest for life. Private graveside services. Dear Steven, Carol, Lisa, Scott, Nancy and Michael,

We just finished being at your dad’s service with all of you and your families. It was perfect, and he would have been thrilled with the words and emotions that were expressed. You all captured so much of his wonderful energy and spirit. From the spiral throws to the welded steel trees and garlic flavoring, he was always his own person. He loved all of you so much.
We knew your dad for most of our lives. Alan and Dianne took me, Natalie, for my first pizza at Gabriel’s when I was 12, because Alan could drive. Peter and Alan first met in math classes at Senn High School. And we both always felt close to him. About 12 years ago, when Peter arrived late one evening on a business trip to Chicago and called him, Alan said, “Come on over and I want to read you some poetry. I did and he did, until nearly midnight.
We admire and love all of you so much, and the lives you have made. As Stevie said through the Rabbi, “We may not have it all together, but together we have it all.” You are individually and collectively the most wonderful family. We treasure being a part of it.

A year ago Alan and I were playing football with our grandsons as we had done many times before. We both loved it but Alan threw a better spiral. Hard to admit but true. He called me his brother since neither of us had a brother.
For the past year we have been on FaceTime many times. We would call each other. This past Saturday Bobbi and I FaceTimed with both Dianne and Alan. Alan seemed fine and we had a nice chat. He said he was doing about the same and Dianne was as well. He thanked us for calling. There was no indication that he wasn’t the same as every other time we spoke.
In addition to being our cousin he was a dear friend and we miss him.
