OBITUARY

Howard Teddy Kirschner, 80

Howard Kirschner was a father and a husband and an uncle and a restaurant owner. He was also Benny the Bull. Yes, that Benny the Bull. Howard passed away November 27. His spirit and legacy lives on through his wife Paulette nee Lapin and his daughters and sons-in-law Joey and Michael Waldman and Annie and Scott Smith. Other recipients of his bedtime stories, odd jokes and goofy tales are his grandchildren Evan and Sophie Waldman and Brynn and Rory Smith. He is also survived by his best friend, his sister Carol. He is also remembered by his occasional partner-in-crime and always brother-in-law, Jeff Lapin. If we're being honest, Howie has many. many people who will remember him, because he was kind and funny and would give you the shirt off his back or a second or third or fourth chance. He was the owner of Sam and Hy's deli in Skokie and a purveyor to many of Chicago's finest restaurants. He made friends everywhere he went, no matter whom he was talking to. Howie was the kind of man who bought a Corvette for himself but the license plate was his daughters' names. Howie would, with very little prompting, tell you everything about a nearby railroad. Or Chicago history. Or the origin of the food you were eating. Howie will be remembered as being unforgettable. Services will be held Friday at 2pm at Chicago Jewish Funerals, 8851 Skokie Blvd. (at Niles Center Road), Skokie. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 7272 Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX 75231, www.heart.org. Howard was a bright light, a warm and welcoming friend to us, his new in-laws due to Annie and Scott tying the knot all those years ago. We were so delighted to get to know him and share his ever-growing love for us and especially for our son. He treasured his family and we were lucky to be included in his warm embrace. He was a man with a loving and generous heart, a fun loving spirit, and kind in word and deed. We will miss him!!!!

Heaven doesn’t know what’s coming!!

They are about to meet my brother and best friend.

Howard is a special person, I know, because I’ve known him 77 years.

. Opinionated…yes. Goofy…sometimes. You can count on me… absolutely . Loving…always

No words can ever express my feelings for my brother. It was our special bond. A bond only we could understand.

Howard, I will miss you terribly but one day I’ll be with you and laugh together again.

Love

How ironic that both boys, and I still consider them boys, who played Benny the bull passed away within a month of each other. Paulette, my heart aches as yours does. I will never forget our times together… our babies are 50 years old. Wow …. Losing Howard and Larry is unspeakable and I know Joey, Matthew and of course Annie are suffering a catastrophic loss. God be with them….and us all. Be strong P ….I love you…mm
