OBITUARY

Libby Savner nee Rosenberg, age 79

Beloved wife of the late David A. Savner for nearly 53 years.

Loving mother of Jennifer Savner Levinson and Michael (Jennifer) Savner, an adoring grandmother of Molly and Kate Levinson, Abby and Marissa Savner, a dear sister of Burt (Sheli) Rosenberg, sister-in-law of Steve Savner (Cindy Mann), and a cherished aunt of many nieces and a nephew.

Libby's life was marked by her dedication to her family, philanthropy, education and her love of travel. She graduated from Washington University in St. Louis ('66), and her career as an educator in the Evanston School District spanned many years. She was a member and president of the Deerfield, Illinois Board of Education and a board member of the Josselyn Center, which serves the mental health needs of Chicago's North Shore. Later in life, she became a full-time travel consultant, a career she loved deeply.

Libby and David were not only devoted to their family but also generous philanthropists. Their commitment to Northwestern Law School resulted in the establishment of The David and Libby Savner Scholarship Fund, which will continue to provide full-tuition scholarships for future generations. In 2014, their generous gift led to the creation of Savner Hall, a state-of-the-art classroom dedicated to technology-based teaching solutions.

A service to celebrate Libby's life will be held on Monday, January 15, at 3 PM at Waldorf Astoria, 11 E. Walton, Chicago, Illinois, 60611.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to Doctors Without Borders USA, 40 Rector Street, 16th Floor, New York, NY 10006, to Attn: Planned Giving, www.donate.doctorswithoutborders.org or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 Street Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105, www.stjude.org. For those unable to attend in person, the funeral will be live-streamed. To access the live-stream, please visit our website.

Dear Jennifer and Michael,

Libby was a dear friend to us and, we know, to many others.

We fondly remember the many dinners we shared with her and David whenever they were in San Diego. Her sense of humor, sharp intellect, and care for others made for many enjoyable conversations.

Our deepest sympathies go to her family, which we know was a source of great pride and happiness for her.

All of us who knew Libby have lost a beautiful part of our lives, and we are better people for having been able to share a small part of hers.

Sending Love and Hugs….

I had the pleasure to work for Libby and David in Washington DC for over 12 years. Every Wednesday Libby and I would sit for a cup of coffee which she would have prepared with lots of love and we would share lovely stories . We would plant spring flowers in the deck and had good laughs. I use to call her my American MOM. She always had time to listen and give a harm hug . She insisted that I brought my new born to work and she loved babysitting her while I was working. We went out for dinner and enjoyed a good glass of red wine . When she moved to Chicago we kept in touch and called every Wednesday to talk . I miss my dear friend and will keep our friendship and memories to the day I die . My deepest condolences to the lovely family. Olga Pereira.

I met Libby in 1969 when my husband Dennis met David practicing law in Chicago while Libby and I were teaching in Evanston, We four became life-long friends, Over the years we celebrated all our family milestones and traveled the world together. Many warm nights playing charades poolside in Puerto Vallarta. We also stood side by side facing losses.
My heart goes out to you, Jennifer and David and to your families at this sorrowful time. She loved you so.

Dear Jennifer & Michael

We remember fondly how Libby and David welcomed us into the General Dynamics Company. We shared many memorable events together with them while we were there

After David’s retirement Libby and David spent considerable time at their San Diego home and we would enjoy their friendship and catch up with what’s happening in their lives over dinner. Such good times!

We were saddened by Libby’s passing as she like David became such dear friends. Her wit, tenacious drive and love will be truly missed

Our deepest sympathies to the family. ❤️

My heart goes out to you and your families, Jennifer and Michael. I feel so fortunate to have known Libby. She became a great friend to my parents, Charles and Dorothy Caruso. It was a strong friendship that spanned decades. I witnessed many times the importance and beauty of that friendship. I consider myself lucky to have had opportunities to be a part of their connection and spend time with Libby and David. I will treasure those memories. Thank you for live streaming the service. It was a beautiful tribute to a life well-lived.

It has been a unique pleasure and honor to have been able to have Libby (and David) as part of our lives since moving to Chicago 16 years ago. It was especially dear to have our Tuesday afternoon calls with Libby since David’s passing. Regardless of her travails, she made great effort to make thacalls. One could not ask for a stronger friend. Those calls and the chocolate donuts we occasionally dropped off helped to deepen the bond we felt with Libby and hopefully helped her during her decline. We will miss her and will always remember her with great fondness.
