My thoughts and prayers for Annette's family. We met each other when we were little children in the neighborhood. Over the years we shared many fun times all through high school, college and after. She was a beautiful lady inside and out. She had a smile that lit up a room! She will be truly missed. Hugs to the family.

As a trial lawyer practicing in Chicago, I knew Annette professionally for more than thirty years. She represented plaintiffs while I represented defendants, and we were opponents in multiple cases over the years. My first ever Cook County Law Division jury trial and verdict was against her. Even when I first met her in the very early 1990s, she had already earned her reputation as a fierce litigator and a skilled trial lawyer. It is easy to forget today how hard that must have been for her starting out in the 1980s when female attorneys were fewer, and their roles were usually lesser. Annette was a presence, and some people feared her. Anytime you had a case against her, you knew you were going to get a run for your money. Most of us respected that, and her skill as an attorney played a big part in the reputation she earned. However, I think her professionalism was just as important. In all the years I knew her, she was firm but fair. She never resorted to dirty tricks. She kept her word. Her demeanor was always professional. She expected you to do the same. Above that, she always smiled when she met people, even if passing on the sidewalk, and she would take a moment to chat as a genuine friend.

Listening to her children speak at the memorial service, I was clear to me how Annette was every bit as good a parent as she was an attorney. Her daughter looks so much like Annette when I first met her, it was uncanny. Nothing can replace their loss. I am writing so they can be assured that those of us who knew Annette professionally also admired and respected her, and we will miss her too.

This is for Kayla and Elon. Your mother and I were colleagues at Harvey Walner's office when we were both young, although I did not hold a candle to Annette. I have no doubt that it was because of her prowess as a trial lawyer that I (I was the second female lawyer hire at Harvey's) was even considered for the job. In the early 90's, we successfully tried a case together, covered by TV news, involving sleight of hand in the construction of nuclear power plants at LaSalle and Zion, Illinois. She was a laser-focused lawyer. I attended her wedding, myself married a little later, and moved to New Hampshire. We fell out of touch until about a year ago, when I was so delighted that Annette contacted me out of the blue, and we had a number of detailed exchanges over the next few months. I am writing to tell you, to assure you, of something that you probably already know: that of everything in her life, it is you two of whom she was most proud, that you were more important than anything else in the world to her. May her memory be a blessing.
