Beloved husband for 64 years to his college sweetheart Jean, nee Sievers. Loving father of Jennifer (Michael) Brown, Alan (Pamela) Rice, Elise (Dr. Marc) Swatez, and Michael (Susan) Rice. Dear son of the late Julia and Nathan Rice. Devoted brother of the late Fredrick Rice. Proud grandfather of Rachel Brown, Benjamin (Nicole) Brown, Joelle Swatez, Joshua Swatez, Micah Swatez, Asher Rice, and Eviana Rice. Great grandfather of Sophie Brown. Lurie’s Children Hospital for over 45 years. Dr. Rice was a longtime member of Congregation Bnai Emunah (which later merged with Beth Hillel) where he served on the Board of Directors for many years including the position of Vice President of the Ritual Committee. Dear Jean, Jennifer & the entire Rice Family,
Dr. Howard Rice was such a great mentor to me when I was starting out as a brand new pediatrician at Town & Country Pediatrics back in 1998. His wisdom was profound, and his love for the children & families was inspiring. He made such an impact on all of us who were fortunate enough to know him. Integrity, honesty, dedication - what a mensch! I cannot thank him enough for all he did for me and everyone else. My thoughts & prayers are with you all.
With Deepest Condolences,
Brian & Shani Hirsch

Dear Rice Family,
Dr. Rice cared for all three of my children. He was caring and understanding, and always told a joke or made my kids laugh so that they were not afraid to be at the doctor's office. I was saddened to hear about your loss. The whole Chicago-area community has lost a great pediatrician. Humanity has lost a lovely man.

To the Rice Family,

Dr Rice was my pediatrician, I saw him at his first practice on Webster and Lincoln for many years. When I had my daughter, he saw her as well at Town and Country. He was very caring, funny, and passionate about his patients. Such a great person to have know. May he rest well. I extend my deepest condolences to you all.
