OBITUARY

Jacob Miles Childrey, 28

Beloved son of Judith Warschausky Childrey and Gary Childrey. Loving brother of Noah Childrey. Cherished grandson of Lorraine Nadelman and the late Sidney Warschausky, and the late Roman and the late Millie Childrey. Fond nephew of Seth (Sandra) Warschausky, Carl (Laurie) Warschausky, and Stephanie Childrey. Dear cousin of Aaron, Kara, Micah, Max, Ryan, and Gabriel Warschausky.

Jacob was kind, loving, and full of life. He would do anything for family, friends, or coworkers. He was also an avid exerciser and helped train others. His interests were meditation, yoga, nutrition, and staying current with news and social issues around the world.

Jacob was our spark, most especially during this last year of isolation. But he carried a lot on his shoulders. While we knew he was having a stressful time trying to manage college and work during Covid, this has been a horrible shock for us and all the many people who love him.

To keep everyone safe and healthy, the chapel service and interment are private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Erika’s Lighthouse, 897 ½ Green Bay Road, Winnetka, IL 60093, www.erikaslighthouse.org or National Park Foundation, 1500 K Street NW, Ste 700, Washington, DC 20005, www.nationalparks.org. Your sweet, handsome boy
Always a smile and a kind word when we’d pass by your house
We will always remember him as a young boy,, running through the neighborhood, playing games, and charming us all
We are so sorry for your deep, unimaginable loss

Micah Rogers

I've been working with Jacob for over a year, and am always and forever astounded by the patience, kindness, creativity, and passion that Jacob put out into the world. I can't imagine the emotions you're going through, but please know that there is a community that will never forget his welcoming nature, including myself. I'm so sorry for your loss.

lorin pritikin

I have a heavy heart after learning of your incalculable loss. I am so very sorry.

Mary Jo Barrett

Jacob was a light- he gave so much of himself in his short time on earth. There was never a time that his smile didn’t fill his energy to encourage us to continue the work. He will always be a blessing.

Jacob Keleher

My heart is heavy for Gary who I get to see on morning coffee runs and for Jacob’s entire family. I can speak for Jacob’s Starbucks family that the joy he brought to all of us when we had the chance to work alongside of him will be missed and is irreplaceable. He was there for me and the team when I was fighting cancer and I will never forget how much his support meant to me.

Ian Rosenthal

Jacob taught me how you could be so radically present, so unbelievably with one another, so passionate about sharing and providing joy that the world couldn’t help but move. I cannot express enough gratitude for the privilege of growing up with him and being shaped by his kindness. I’m so sorry for your loss. I’m sending you all my love, care, and support, all of which are touched by Jacob through the life he gave to others.

Leah Rosenthal

I'm so deeply sorry for your loss. Jacob was an absolute ball of sunshine to those who had the great honor of knowing him. I'm comforted thinking about his kind and most genuine smile. He brought joy and levity to everyone around him. Noah, my heart breaks for you. I know you shared a special bond with Jake and he couldn't have been luckier to call you his brother. Judith & Gary, what an incredible young man you raised. Growing up alongside your children has been a great blessing. We love you all very much.

John, Dorothy, and Matthew Agnew

Jacob was such a curious and friendly person. As a boy, he would occasionally walk down the block to help plant bulbs, pass out halloween candy, and to greet our son, Matthew, when he arrived. John had the sweetest trick to remember Jacob's name. He was the 'cub' because he was the youngest Childrey (Ja-cub). We will cherish our memories of Jacob wrestling with his Dad on the front lawn, helping put up tables for the block parties, and going out of his way to say hello to a neighbor while out for a walk with his Mom. He will be missed.

Brent Perrotti

Working with Jacob was such a pleasure. We always had lots of laughs that would make the shift fly by. When our schedules didn't overlap I'd see him most morning on his coffee run and we'd have some nice time to chat a bit before our days got started. It was a pleasure to get to know him and work with him. He will be deeply missed.

Simone Padron-Glass

I'm so sorry for your loss. Jacob was always such a joy to be around.

Hanna S, Rema A, and Justin W

Jacob was a ray of light who touched everyone's lives no matter how well he knew them. He was an amazing friend and he always tried to make others feel laughter and joy. Jacob was so kind, vast, and genuine that anyone could confide in him. He is forever in our hearts and he will be missed.

Amena Hashmi

Jacob was the most kindest sweetest man he was so caring to everyone around him. He knew how to make everyone in the room light up and make the atmosphere a happier place. He will be dearly miss he was a great friend

Kate Franks

Working with Jacob was just such an absolute joy. I only worked with him for a few months but those few months stand out like a sore thumb in the best way possible. I remember when I first started I was bothering him about astrology (it seems so silly now) and he just started laughing at me with the biggest, heartiest laugh I'd soon come to find familiar and comforting. I already miss Jacob more than I ever could've ever imagined. He was truly larger than life and he made even the smallest moments so special. I wish Gary, Judith and Noah peace and I send all of my love to you.

Terri Bernsohn

I am so grateful I was able to get to know Jacob as a child and a young man at JRC. What a life force! He was fully present, so sweet, smart, hardworking, fun-loving. He will be remembered and missed forever.

Dylan Madden

I had the pleasure of getting to know Jacob during our shared time at Illinois Wesleyan University, and as brothers of Tau Kappa Epsilon. Jacob always lit up every room he stepped in, and almost always had a smile on his face. He was always willing to help, and always ready to step in when a friend was in need.

Unfortunately, I saw Jacob only sparingly over the past few years as life, as it often does, causes old friends to drift apart, but I remember that infectious smile and energy from our last time seeing each other. It comes as a terrible shock to learn that he is no longer with us, and my deepest condolences to his family. He will be missed and fondly remembered.

Ethan A

I love my cousins. The Childrey/Warschausky group is so close and so inimitable. This closeness will undoubtedly carry Jacob's memory and your ability to heal forward. Sending you strength from your New York family.

Dillin Randolph

Jacob Childrey is my man 50 grand for real. We didn't need to talk every day or hang out to still be tight. The first time I ever met him was in 6th grade gym class. He walked up to me with his dyed bleach blonde hair and just slapped me (it wasn't that hard). The audacity of this kid! To just slap some other big black kid he just met. Luckily, it was a sign of friendship. We eventually called them the "daily slaps." This lasted all the way through middle school.

One day, Jacob randomly asked me and some other kids if I wanted to play Halo at his house after football practice the summer before freshmen year. Little did we know that began a long standing tradition of playing Halo while listening to Daft Punk's Discovery album and Kanye's Graduation. I even thanked him for introducing me to Daft Punk years later because I can't listen to them without reminiscing about playing Halo in his basement.

There was one weekend that I slept over his house on a Friday night and didn't come home until the following Wednesday! Just didn't want to stop hanging out with my homie. His parents were extremely hospitable as well.

This picture was taken after a college visit back in like 2008. Pretty sure we went to wrestling practice late after this picture and Jacob just danced in the corner because he was just over the sport. It was an act of defiance, but I saw it as an expression of him just being care free. That's what I'll choose remember him as. I'll see you later, homie.

The love I have for Jacob will never change this amazing human being changed my life both mentally and physically. I will never forget him . Knowing that I got to work with him would instantly make my day 100 times better . Our endless talks about workouts ,ufc fights , and our own personal life . I will forever cherish his memories

Samuel O'Neill

Had pictures on my parents' fridge growing up of this family. A lot of young memories. So horribly tragic. Passing my love along. Do not have a single bad memory of Jacob. Just a cool person, and the service today was outstanding. Kind of feel like I know him better now honestly. Broke down a few times.

Very Sorry.... My words won't help much but expect random flower deliveries in his name. Much love and deep condolences for Noah, Judy and Gary.... I'll remember him into the next life. Please keep yourselves healthy.

I am so sorry, I loved seeing and working out with Jacob. We always shared a laugh. If there is anything you need please don't hesitate to ask.

This hit me hard. I feel deeply saddened to hear of Jacob’s passing. I’ve been lost in my thoughts all day and have broken down in tears many times. My love and condolences go out to the entire family. Although I only knew Jacob as a small boy. After watching his beautiful service in its entirety, I feel I know who he became. Listening to everyone’s descriptions and stories touched my heart deeply. Juda and Gary, you made such an impact on my childhood. I have the best memories of our time together. You we’re there for my sisters and I long before you had children of your own. You did this out the kindness and love in your hearts. Jacob absolutely inherited this love and generosity from his wonderful family as your Rabbi so beautifully expressed. I hope that his beautifully legacy will bring comfort to you both, Noah, and your family. All my love.

Shermeen Kazemi

Jacob was a bright light. His intelligence and confidence shines and I am honored to call him my friend. From anatomy class, to summer parties, to Starbucks coworker conversations. You were a real one.

GARRETT ROTHE

This crushed me. What a great energy and smile. So smart. Always upbeat, always questioning and thinking. So incredibly sad. I will miss our conversations, Jacob. Rest easy, buddy. Love to Jacob's family and close friends.

Bonnie Loder

I was one of Jacob's professors, and I only knew Jacob for a short period of time. What a kind, humane, and courageous person for his age. I saw how he lifted others up. He saw the beautiful, funny, positive parts of his classmates- the parts that others might not have seen- and let them know that he saw it. He showed that he appreciated you, that he accepted you. What a good person, what good parents for raising a person like Jacob. I am so, so sorry for your loss. May you find consolation in knowing that he brought happiness to the people around him.

Grace Singleton

Jacob was such an amazing man. I had the pleasure of working with him and am so grateful that I got to know him. He was smart, funny, caring, and brought so much positive energy and joy to everything he did. I am so glad I got to see him just aa few weeks ago. much love to all of his friends and family, I'm so sorry for this loss.
