My Paternal First Cousin— Who will sing show tunes to me now? Veteran, business owner, baseball fan spring camper, one-liner joke spinner. You did it your way, and you did it spectacularly. Your light lives on in my heart, and your memory is a loving blessing.

I did not know Bernie for long but he touched my heart and soul.
I think that is the point of life, to touch each person you meet and leave a lasting impression.
That is a wonderful legacy.
I am sorry for your loss.

A man who was loved by all including myself. A simple conversation about any topic with him ,would brighten anyone's day..Quit witted and always sharp with his answers to any questions you may have .His presence will be missed in a big way.To me this is not a time to mourn, but a time to reflect on all the happy memories of hm and to celebrate his life.

When Bernie arrived at Camp, everyone knew. He created a buzz and energy that could be heard and felt throughout the campus. I appreciated our conversations and seeing him shoot hoops on the trail court with whoever wanted to play. Thinking of your family and sending the deepest condolences.

Oh the Kerman brothers and their sweet sister Sharon....how I loved them all and our parents how much did they love each other.....

My memories of all the boys and Sharon are happy and and sooo precious.....Bea and Mac were my much loved Aunt and Uncle, at every special event in my life.....

and now our grand daughter Sara, has three boys of her own, the oldest is "Julian Mack", you can imagine, for me, Sara and Mack together for many, many years

All my heartfelt love to the children and families of all the KERMANS.....I keep their memories in my heart, as long as I continue to live.....

I am so saddened to hear of Bernie’s passing. We went to O’Keefe and South Shore together. In fact ,because we lived so far away from O’Keefe we got out for lunch 15 minutes earlier than the rest of the class so we could get home and back in time for class. As I remember we went to Kingburger and Rosenblums for lunch on 71st rather than go all the way home. Bernie was such a positive person with a great smile and a powerful voice and I loved seeing him at reunions. He was so proud of his family and loved them so much. My deepest sympathy to His wife Iris and his daughter Bonnie. He will be missed.

My sincere condolences to the family of Bernie It was such a pleasure to work with Bernie at the Village. I so enjoyed his quips. He always showed his appreciation and acknowledgement of any person or groups that did a good job. He will be missed but I know I will think of him often. God bless you all.

We threw peas at each other across the table at grandma Spink’s home on Passover. We played softball on 71st Street. Bernie was the one who always jumped over the South Shore country club fence to retrieve an errant fly ball, usually hit be George. Even though our families were not close, over the years I’m happy that Bernie and I stayed in touch. I’ll miss him, and, despite the rough times among some family members, I will always remember our great times growing up together.

Bernie was a special guy. When I'd see him at Ojibwa he brought energy and enthusiasm. He always had a story to tell and was fun to hang out with on the camp grounds or on the basketball court. Knowing Bernie since I started Camp a t 10 years old affected my life. He always had a smile on his face and a positive attitude. He impacted generations of campers with his story telling - most of them (including myself) - really thought he was an Olympic walker! The mess hall would vibrate with the Go Bernie Go! chants.

I also knew and would see Bernie in the "off-season" since we ordered our office supplies from him through BIB. He would tell us about Iris and his face would light up when talking about Bonnie. Bonnie, you spoke so well today. I am 48 years old and consider Bernie a great friend. I couldn't imagine having him as my dad. He will be missed. Sending my best to your family.

Bernie was easily one of the most beloved people at Camp Ojibwa. Always with a smile on his face and a joke to be told, it's like it was always his goal to make you laugh or smile. Bernie was the consummate official as well. No one could make you laugh, and at the same time, make the right call like Bernie. The "Go Bernie Go" chants will live forever at Camp. My father mentioned to me that the speed walking story was not planned. Dad came up with it on the spot when introducing him to the camp as one of the Boys of Summer. Bernie could have just stood there and accepted the story as his own, but instead, with his incredibly quick wit and comedic genius, started the speed walking gait slowly, speeding up as he walked down the aisle of the Mess Hall, continuing right out of the building until he was at full pace all the way down the hill, and the rest is history. Bernie will be missed. Loved him!

I was deeply saddened to hear of Bernie's passing. As a young kid, I can remember the excitement and anticipation of "Go Bernie Go" coming to camp. The famous Olympic speed walker, the energy, the walk, the mess hall rocking, that smiley red face. It was always a highlight of my summer and I know the storytelling about Bernie will live on for generations. During my high school years, all I had to do was look over at the sidelines and there would be Bernie rooting me on at the GBN basketball games!! Somehow I couldn't get family members tickets, but there would be Bernie first row giving me the thumbs up and shooting me that million dollar smile. It was always comforting to see him over there and know that I had him in my corner. As I got older, he would reminisce about those games remembering specific plays and every single time had to reenact the story about my fight with the Maine East fans -what he said was one of his favorite stories/incidents of all time. Bernie simply was a great man!! He was one of the most positive and energetic human beings that I have ever met, loyal, passionate, friendly, and caring, but didn't back down from a challenge and always spoke his mind. They don't make them like Bernie anymore and he will be sorely missed, but never ever forgotten. My deepest sympathies and condolences to the entire family.
