As we wrote to Joyce and Hal on Saturday morning when Joyce left a message with the sad news, we are so very sorry to learn that Uncle Bernie just passed away. Our deepest condolences are with all of you. Uncle Bernie was a truly great guy in every possible way. While you will of course miss him very much, you and everyone he knew and touched were so blessed to have had him. Nothing can ever take that away. We knew you had an immediate family wedding this weekend and wanted to be respectful of your need to balance this loss with the joy of the wedding. We hope to see as many of you as possible tomorrow -- hopefully at the funeral, definitely at the shiva.

Late at night, when all is quiet and well, memories invariably consume me with the sounds of laughter, the smell of food cooking emanating from the kitchen and living room, the crazy antics of my cousins and brothers and sister in the basement, our parents bridge games that went late into the night and early mornings, the dogs playing, catching fireflys in jars on balmy summer evenings in the field by my Uncle Bernie's house in Skokie. We would get together twice a year, making the trek to Chicago or my Uncle and family coming to NY almost every winter and summer and these get togethers were and are among the best times in my life. As I got older and had children of my own - their memories of Uncle Bernie and Aunt Barb are as wonderful and alive today in them as they are with me...memories that will last for them a lifetime as they do for me.

Uncle Bernie and Aunt Barb were truly special people and while we will miss them terribly - we also know how special and lucky we were to have them as our Aunt and Uncle and their lives will live forever deep in our souls.

Our sincere condolences to all my Cousins, my Uncle Bud and to all the folks that were so affected by his life and generosity.....We love you guys so much

Marc, Terri, Kate and Leah.
