Cary touched the lives of many hearts and myself, included. I’m so thankful to have the opportunity of knowing and looking up to him. He was so compassionate and selfless. Always believing in the power of helping others, and it showed in everything he did. Cary was not only an uncle to me, but a second father and I could not be more appreciative of all the fond, unforgettable memories I have with him and Carmen. As you all are thinking of him, I want you to think of the charismatic person he is with the most touching words. He has always been and still will be such a significant part of my life that I wish always cherish and honor.

With Love,
Stephanie

Tio Akiva,
You have always been more than just an uncle to Stephanie & I. You truly did treat us as your kids. You promised to always help us out in order to achieve our dreams. Inspired us to be anything we wanted. You more than kept your promise. You opened your big blue heart to our family & I can’t thank you enough for it. You always had time to take us to the pool whether it was 8:00 am or 8:00 pm. You showed me that even adults can keep their huge personality, high energy and remain goofy & active. From wearing every shade of blue, taking a picture of everyone & everything, going on about the benefits of kale juice or eating a whole spinach & cheese pizza to yourself. It inspired me to be the best father I can be, constantly playing and goofing around with my son. Everytime you felt the need to encourage me or give me advice, I’m convinced you always relied on four options: Bring up the plot to the matrix, use a song lyric by Genesis, a quote by Bruce Lee or take an excerpt from the Torah to somehow relate to what I was going through. I’m wearing your favorite blue tie today in honor of you. I will always miss you & cherish all the memories you gave me. I love you Cary, you were truly a second father to Stephanie & I.
Love, Brandon

Cary was the kindest, most considerate person. He was nothing but genuine and caring to me and everyone around him. He was the first to congratulate me during my graduation, and always calling asking to see how everything was going. He was also hilarious, whenever anyone was around him you couldn’t help but smile.

I loved his humor. The first time I asked him if he wanted a drink he said ”water. And if I really get crazy I’ll have you put a lemon in it.”

I will always remember Cary as a person that was involved, he was kind and thoughtful at all times. One embedded memory of him in all the gatherings it was him asking me how I was and how I felt, you don’t encounter many persons with a caring hearth like you Cary.
You will be remembered!

I've known Cary since our fraternity days back in 1982, and he was a good friend. We've grown apart especially after he married and moved to California, but he still called me periodically.

Cary worked hard at everything, regarding his health and legal career. I knew he was ill with LOTS but he seemed to be overcoming it. I am so sad to hear about his passing.

My condolences to his family from my wife and me.

Dear Carmen,
My deepest condolences to you and the Berman family. Cary was a big part of my youth and we learned many life lessons together. We had many mishaps, happy, sad and dynamic moments. You are truly his besherdt, soul mate and companion. He leaned on you and spoke so fondly about you and how you helped him. I was so happy that you came into his life and you were married for so many years. He loved you deeply. He is in Heaven now and not suffering anymore. May his memory be a blessing. God bless you for your kindness.
Warmly, Kathy Jean-Keller

Peace and light to Cary’s family: He was a very inspiring friend. We attended High School together but only met about 12 years ago when he decided to study Reiki with me. I am glad we got to chat via text about a month ago! His birthday was the same day as both of my parents and baby brother. A very special person indeed. I will always hold fond memories of Cary…
