OBITUARY

Peter Miller, 92, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2024. Peter loved his family and friends with an intense passion — his children, Bruce, Susie, and Danny Miller, his son-in-law, Jeff Tweedy, and daughter-in-law, Kendall Hailey, and his beloved grandchildren, Spencer and Sammy Tweedy and Léah and Charles Miller. Peter was a devoted son to the late Jeanette Miller, brother to the late William and Marvin, and adored uncle, cousin, and friend to so many. Born into poverty in Chicago during the Great Depression, Peter started working at a very young age and was forever in search of his fortune. In the process, he was loved by all for his humor, kindness, storytelling, and menschiness in all ways. Though he never did make those millions, his fortune was far greater than anything money could buy — his unparalleled ability to love and be loved. The women in his life, Judy, Marilyn, and Ellen, felt special in his eyes, but so did all he came in contact with. Su memoria será siempre una bendición. Chapel service Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at 12:00 PM at Chicago Jewish Funerals, 8851 Skokie Blvd (at Niles Center Road), Skokie. Interment at Shalom Memorial Park. Donations in his honor may be made to Emanuel Congregation, 5959 N. Sheridan Road Chicago, IL 60660, www.emanuelcong.org or Letters to Santa charity, www.letterscharity.org. GUEST BOOK

We encourage you to share your personal condolences and stories of Peter Miller below and we will share them with the family.
*Email and phone numbers will NOT be displayed online

My heart aches. We’ve spent hundreds of hours on the phone and many hours together live over the last 85 years at least. If we only had the technology to have recorded the joy and laughter to leave behind to show how to live a joyous life …..that will have to remain in our memories. I hope in his book Peter shared all the joy and laughter that he brought to anyone who ever was in his company at any given moment on the phone or in person. When he loved he loved like no other. He was a passionate advocate for me always concerned for my safety, family and health.

Danny, Susie and Bruce have been left by a a special soul and I know that gift was given back to him by all of you whenever he needed it. You are all blessed. God Bless you and all who love Peter, my brother from another mother, from wonderful loving sisters who bred us.

Well I have to say we got to know a bit about Mr. Miller through a very alternative way…through the Alexa app on Suzy’s phone during the airing of the Tweedy Show on Instagram. When she would say “dad..dad are your there?” And there he would be…with so many good stories and jokes, he became part of my nights in those dark days of Covid. What a bright light he was…he reminded me of my own father who would be the same age now. Rest in peace Mr. Peter you were so loved by so many. 💖

Love and blessings from Minnesota and the extended Jayhawks and Golden Smog families.

I never had the honor of meeting Peter IRL, as the kids say, but due to his regular appearances on The Tweedy Show, I have a much better idea of what kind of person / father / grandfather he was, and it was very obvious to see the love he had for his family. His presence on the show and his stories were endlessly fascinating and so full of love, life and joy. We'll miss you, Pedrobot. Tanchumin to all who knew and loved him.

It may take another day or two before I can really say anything that makes sense but please know that I hired the local Kollel to say Kaddish for the 11 months in Pedro's memory..

I first met Peter Miller in 1978 when Shari Pergricht, my colleague at at Northern Illinois University, whisked me away from the podunk town of DeKalb, Illinois into the thriving metropolis of Chicago. When she introduced me to her friends, Danny and Sue Miller, I liked them immediately. I was relieved to have a break from the stress of graduate school and more to do than look at cornfields. The whole Miller family welcomed me with open arms. I specifically remember Peter's kindness and warmth, his booming laugh and vibrant sense of humor. The love the Miller family had for each other was contagious and I felt blessed to be a part of it. I specifically remember joining them for shabbus dinner on Friday nights and feeling so at home and included. Danny and I have kept in touch all of these years and I am so grateful for our long friendship.
