I met Dave in Jr high. Even though we only lived a block from each other in Skokie, we went to different grammar schools. I’m not sure when we became such good friends, but I expect it was through sports, definitely not because we double dated.
I’ll give you a reason that comes to mind for our long and close friendship, always having the trust that we cared for each other and we would look out for each other.
He’s an example of the trust, not necessarily highlighting how smart we were.
We were self employed one summer doing odd jobs and we contracted to clean someone’s gutters in the city on a home that was two and a half stories high. I tied a STRING around Dave and wrapped it around the chimney as he went to the edge of the roof to bend over and clean the gutters. How he trusted me to stop him from falling ( and I believed I could) is unbelievable. As we grew older together we laughed about that day many times.
He will be missed !!

David had such a lovely way about him. I remember conversations both and deep and funny over bagels and lox. He will be missed. My love goes out to all the Mayzel’s.

David was a friend for over 65 years. He was the best all around athlete among our core group of friends that contained a lot of great athletes. My funniest memory of David was at the lunch table we shared for years at Niles North and the infamous "dish drop" incident. I will personally miss my friend and know he's in a better place now.

I will miss my friend Dave. Conversations I had with Dave were authentic. He so enjoyed talking about baseball, golf his family, his friends, how much he hated trump ,and how delicious super dawg hot dogs were. In spite of the fact that life had treated him unfairly he never complained. Even during difficult times when asked how he was his answer was always ‘ never better’. He was a fabulous athlete . He excelled at baseball, basketball, and of course golf. He just wanted to hit balls. Bonnie always found him charming and a gentleman. In short he was just a wonderful person. I will miss my friend.

Met Dave in 1958 and as with all of our friends we were all close these many years. From little league baseball to grandchildren we have been more then friends and it is truly with a heavy heart I write this memo. We are all so sad this passing but for sure he is playing golf today with no pain illness or issues.
Rest in peace to my buddy I will see you when I see you and we will play forever!!! It is clear you were very much loved❤️

Such a great athlete, my shortstop in little league, basketball star, and golf teammate. Sad for the loss to his loved ones.

We played together as kids and then softball. He was a natural athlete and much more than just a friend more like a brother. Gil and I loved him very much. I truly hope he was not in pain. Such special memories

David and I were wonderful friends in high school. Even though I took the school bus to and from school, occasionally, he would walk me all the way home when he didn’t have practice. We just laughed and joked and talked. He had a shyness but much warmth. Later on after graduation he would come over and we would just hang out . He tried to help my golf swing but to no avail! He would just stand there with a Big smile on his face and shake his head. He did have a lot of patience! Our friendship continued through the years whenever we’d see each other at social events. Through mutual friends, we would hear about each other.
And now I am so saddened….i will miss you David.

Adriane and I have been friends with David since 7th grade. One memory that stands out to me was when we were in 7th grade and Dave lamented that we were the same height, 5’4”. He grew a foot and a half the next year and became the best all around athlete of our group of friends. He was a wonderful friend and will be sorely missed.

We met at 10, became best friends in our late teens. So many great memories. Our Trip to Maui in 87. The years of softball. Our children frolicking together at Great America. The 50+ years of phone conversions after I left the Chicago and maybe most of all that boisterous, goofy laugh. I guess heaven couldn't wait

Judy and Suzy,
This is Sheryl Siegel. Rosenberg. I just heard of David’s passing. I was so saddened to hear this.
All my memories of town house living on Niles Center Road came back. What fun we had , and shared so many laughs.
My thoughts and prayers are with you. I know so much time has passed and we were not there for all the good and bad things for each other, but nothing could erase the good fun memories we shared.

I met David playing Little League baseball. We were on Dick Longtins - he played shortstop and I played second base. Blossomed into a lifelong friendship. David was part of our six person lunch table at Niles North. Too many laughs to remember. Truly one of the great guys. Many comments about what a great athlete he was and all of those comments are true. But more than a great athlete, David was compassionate, funny, generous, embracing, and smart. His general knowledge was off the charts. I loved David and miss him already. RIP, David.

To the Mayzel family,

I did not have the good fortune to meet David in person but I did talk on the phone to him twice years ago when I was asked if I could help him with a computer issue he was having. But, Suzy often talked about her big brother. Especially his love of sports, particularity, golf!! And in the past two years, his health challenges. What was very clear was the Mayzel siblings were very close.

Judith, I have not seen you in a few years. I am so sorry for your loss. May the entire Mayzel family hang onto all the great memories David brought to your lives.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to David’s family and many friends. We knew David more from the impressions shared by Suzy and Judith as we only had the privilege of meeting him once. However his zest for life was clearly evident on that occasion as was the love he shared for his family. As years passed his many positive attributes and larger than life persona were amplified even more by those close to him and continue to serve as an inspiration for others. RIP David and may you you forever shoot below par on the celestial golf course.
