OBITUARY
Richard Herbert Rosenblatt, age 96, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2026, after a long and remarkable life defined by devotion to family, service, and hard work.
Born on August 31, 1929, in Omaha, Nebraska, Richard grew up during the Great Depression, an experience that shaped his resilience and determination. He attended Central High School and the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, where he studied business and remained a lifelong Cornhusker fan.
After graduating in 1951, Richard served as a second lieutenant in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was proud of his military service and later became active with Korean War veterans. Richard was an entrepreneur whose hard work and determination built a successful business career in Chicago. He took great pride in providing opportunities and security for his family. At age 27, Richard met the love of his life, Joan. They shared 67 devoted years of marriage and raised three children. Together they built a life filled with love, travel, friendship, and deep family bonds.
In retirement, Richard enjoyed golf, tennis, pottery, and time with those he loved. He also remained deeply connected to his Jewish heritage and supported charitable causes.
Richard is survived by his beloved wife Joan; children Mark (Lenora), Michael (Kathy), and Carolyn (Chip); seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many family members and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, May 3, 2026, at The Oxford Room at The Clare, 55 East Pearson St., Chicago, IL. A luncheon will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations in Richard’s memory may be made to the Jewish United Fund (www.juf.org) or the Wounded Warrior Project (www.woundedwarriorproject.org).
He will be remembered as a loving husband, devoted father and grandfather, proud veteran, and successful businessman who lived life fully.
