OBITUARY
Eliezer "Elie" Geisler, 81
A pioneer in the field of medical technology management and a professor at Illinois Tech's Stuart School of Business for two decades, Elie passed away at the age of 81. Elie joined Stuart in 1999 and retired in 2019 as a Distinguished Professor of Organizational Behavior. He taught courses covering topics such as organizational behavior, health care management, leadership of multicultural organizations, and media strategy and implementation. For his work in the classroom, including creating an Interprofessional Projects (IPRO) Program course in which students designed and implemented a monitoring home system for diabetes patients, he received an award from the university. Elie's scholarly impact was enormous, including co-founding the International Journal of Healthcare Technology and Management, publishing more than 100 academic articles, and authoring several books, including his foundational work in Management of Medical Technology: Theory, Practice, and Cases. He also served on the boards of Mount Sinai Hospital and Schwab Rehabilitation Hospital in Chicago, and served as the chair of the Board of the Committee on Professional Development and Quality of Medical Care. Elie received the prestigious Medal of Excellence Award from the Portland International Center for Management of Engineering and Technology, which recognizes the "extraordinary achievements of individuals in any discipline for their outstanding contributions to science, engineering, and technology management." More than anything else, Elie was an incredible colleague, teacher, scholar, and mentor to faculty, staff, and students at Stuart. Dr. Geisler is survived by his beloved wife, Elizabeth "Betsy" Geisler, his loving stepchildren Catherine (Eric) Selof and Elizabeth (Thom) Karle and children Limor (William Breslin) Geisler, Dan (Rachel Goldman) Geisler and Mordechai (Rita Kogan) Geisler. He is the cherished grandfather of Tyler, Jack, Grace, Maxwell, Henry, Claire, and Emily and dear brother of the late Hanna (Meir) Gorsky. A beloved uncle of 3 nephews and a niece.
