OBITUARY

In Memory of Irwin D. Nelson. Loving husband of over fifty years to the late Ruth and patriarch of four generations. His charm and wit endeared him to all he met. He brought out our best without us even realizing. Musicians he saw often dedicated songs to him in performance. His storytelling was engrossing and his timing impeccable; he could always make you laugh. He was a musical talent at a young age on violin and piano. As an engineer during WWII in Europe, his love of music never left him. He taught counterpoint at the GI University in Biarritz, France at war's end. He strolled through life in a light unhurried manner. Yet in contrast, he was a driver of uncanny ability, way before Google maps, who could always make better time than anyone. He lived every day and even found a second love late in life. He had been called dad, uncle, grandpa, great grandpa and even great-great grandpa... as well as "Mr. Easy", "Mr. Vegas" and lastly "The Chairman". We will never forget Irwin. Private graveside services were held at Shalom Memorial Park Cemetery. Donations to Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601 www.alz.org would be appreciated. My condolences to his son and daughter-in-law, who are my long time close friends. I understand he was a nice very man, with a lively personality. It's difficult losing a loved one, especially the patriarch of ones family.

It was always a pleasure to see Irwin coming out to hear music, inspirational actually. Into his mid 90â??s and never a complaint about aches or pains. On the contrary,Irwin ALWAYS had that gleam in his eye and , oh, that Slick smile!!! Our condolences to the family. . May your memories of Irwin be a comforting blessing.

We met Irwin a few years ago through our good friends, Steve and Gayle. Irwin was such a sweet man, fun, and would come up with some great lines and phrases about anything and everything!!!! He loved music, especially "Classical Blast", a string band featuring violin and cello. Irwin made a lot of friends through music accompanying Steve and Gayle. He always looked forward to music events!!!! It was a pleasure to meet this wonderful and kind man!!!! Rest In Peace, Irwin. You will always live in our Hearts. We always loved seeing and talking with you!!!! Love, Joyce and Jeff

My family and I are blessed to have had the pleasure of knowing Irwin Nelson. I met him in more recent years but have always seen Irwin as a special man who has created a family-life of kindness, music and happiness. I say this because we have seen the love bestowed upon him by Gayle and Steve and the special and kind relationship they share. Together Steve, Gayle and Irwin have been actively enjoying events as avid music lovers attending and supporting all types of musical events. It is always a gift to see sweet Irwin with his glorious bouffant and flowing hair, charming smile, sparkling aura and gentle disposition. Thanks always for your light and love.
