We were good friends with Batya, our sister-in-law, from the time we met her in 1960.. She and Sidney met in israel, got married and toured Europe. Batya was very talented. She was a wonderful cook, teacher, tailor, athlete, singer and special friend. Michael Retsky my husband and I have lived away from Chicago for many years but our relationship with Sidney and Batya was strong. We travelled together frequently and stayed with them when we visited Chicago.

Our nephews Jon and Joel and their families always have a warm and special place in our hearts.

Our love to the family, Myrna and Mike Retsky

My sincere condolences to the family of Batya Retsky on her passing. She and her late husband Sid were my friends for many decades; we were brought together by our shared synagogue, Beth El in Highland Park. Batya was a lovely person, full of spark and spirit, and she loved Israel and the Hebrew language. All of us miss her very much. - Bob Berger

Dear Joel, Jonathan and all the family,
It is with sadness that I write this. Batya taught all my children at Solomon Schechter and was a teacher friend for many, many years. She had a beautiful voice and I love when she read Torah at services at Beth El or a special magillah. It was always beautiful. Once she was housebound, I called her before Shabbat, usually Friday afternoons. One day she told me thanks, but to stop, because it was too hard for her to answer the phone. Sad. She was special with all her talents and always tried to talk to me in Hebrew, but I had to remind her that I didn't know Hebrew. Well, you know what she said then---so learn! I will miss her and all of my friends who are now gone. Rest peacefully, Batya.
