My deepest condolences to Dr. Farkas’ family, including his friends and loved ones. I was a longtime client of Dr. Farkas…over a decade. It is no exaggeration to say that Dr. Farkas changed my life. His teachings will live through me on a daily basis. I can hear and see him in my mind’s eye, very patiently challenging me and finally nodding his head in agreement when I connected the dots on my own. I like to think of him as my greatest friend and confidant. He had a wonderful sense of humor. I will miss him dearly. Thank you for everything, Dr. Farkas. I will never be able to fully express my gratitude.

I was Howard’s postdoctoral fellow when it was Chicago Behavioral Health. I was with Howard as he went from a practice of one to a group practice and helped him hire his first two therapists. It was a hard decision after moving to Atlanta to transition from his practice because it was such a great experience.

Howard transformed my career. I am who I am today as a psychologist because of Howard. Every week I speak to patients about lessons he taught me that I share with them. His memory will forever live on in the lives I am able to help because of all he taught me. Just last week I spoke to a patient about how my old supervisor would always have a serving of ice cream after dinner ( I am not sure if he continued to do this as this was several years ago). The lesson was that if you allow yourself to have what you want you can feel satisfied with just the right amount for you.

My time with him also helped give me the courage to start my own group therapy practice. Howard was a huge mentor to me. His guidance and support was invaluable.

I was so shocked and sad to hear this news. It was a blessing to have known Howard. He was an incredible person and therapist. I know my life was made better because of him. If there is anything I can do to support the practice during this incredibly difficult time please do not hesitate to reach out. Drrebeccaleslie@bestwithinyou.com
