OBITUARY
Kadet, Juell Friedman, age 96, beloved wife of the late Alan Kadet. Juell was the Executive Vice President and owner of Rogers & Hollands Jewelers, a family-owned and operated business serving Chicagoland and beyond since 1910. Founded by her father, Bernard Friedman, the company flourished under Juell’s leadership as she and Alan expanded it into a household name known for unique designs and fine quality at affordable prices. After courageously overcoming breast cancer, Juell established the Kadet Cancer Research Foundation at UChicago Medicine Ingalls Memorial Hospital. To date, the Foundation has raised more than one million dollars in support of oncology research and the ongoing fight for a cure. In recent years, Juell faced a long and valiant battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Juell’s talents extended far beyond the jewelry world. She was a gourmet cook—especially known for her soups—a clothing designer, and an accomplished singer. She released two albums, one benefiting The Neediest Children’s Fund and the other supporting her Foundation. Juell was preceded in death by her parents, Bernard and Miriam Friedman; her husband, Alan; and her sister, Marilyn (Michael) Parfenoff. She is survived by her three children, Marla (Michael) Epton, Rodger (Katherine) Kadet, and Lori (Craig) Stern; and by her grandchildren, Tracy, Jordan (Sophie), Brent (Cara), Nikki (Ryan), David (Monica), and Joshua (Allegra). She was the proud great-grandmother of Asher, Maya, Mya, Hudson, Asher, Lucca, and London, and is also lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Services are private. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Promise of Hope at UChicago Medicine Ingalls Memorial Hospital at JuellKLegacy.givesmart.com or the Rita Hayworth Gala at the Alzheimer’s Association at JuellKLegacyALZ.givesmart.com.
