Howard Aduss, age 90

Beloved husband and best friend of Marcia for 68 inseparable years. Loving father of Kathy (Mark) Fisher, Laura Rendlen, Robert (Deb Cohen) Aduss, and Debbie (Russel) Dushman. Proud grandfather of Alex (Mya Saracho) Fisher, Charlie (Charlene Cartujano) Fisher, Sarah (fiancé Alex Kirschner) Fisher, Ethan Rendlen, Chelsea Rendlen, Amanda (Carlos) Lara, Kyle Dushman, Jenna Dushman and Ryan Dushman. Cherished great grandfather of Rory Aduss Fisher and Anna Marie Lara. Dear brother of Judy Ross and Edward (Sue) Aduss. Howard was born in Brooklyn, New York. He graduated from Stuyvesant High School, Purdue University, and Northwestern Dental School. After graduation, he served as a dentist in the Navy in 29 Palms California for two years. Howard then went on to further his education and love of research at Eastman Dental School and University of Rochester where he got his Orthodontic degree as well as a Masters in Anatomy. Howard was an avid “water person” - sailing, fishing, and diving. He fished on the Atlantic Ocean growing up. He got his first sailboat in his 20’s and never looked back. Howard raced on Lake Michigan for years and years, most often on his boat but also crewing for others. He also sailed all over the world, as far north as the Arctic Circle and as far south as Fiji. Howard was a Professor Emeritus at the University of Illinois College of Medicine and a staff member and Director of the Center for Craniofacial Anomalies. He was also on staff at Rush Medical College. While maintaining an active private practice in Skokie, he devoted his career to the clinical research and treatment of children born with birth defects of the face and head. The patients and their families loved Dr. Aduss and remember him as a special, caring person. Because of his clinical research and publications, Howard was invited to teach and lecture about craniofacial anomalies all over the world. Upon his (first) retirement, Howard and Marcia embarked on their “odyssey”, sailing the Mediterranean and exploring the surrounding countries for 6 years on their 48 foot Swan sailboat Endeavor IV. When they returned, Howard resumed working part-time at The Craniofacial Center until age 85. Howard and Marcia explored the world together. One of their grandchildren once figured out that they had visited 69 countries. His death was due to an accidental fall but appropriately happened while they were traveling. He was so loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed. Service Thursday, 12 noon at Chicago Jewish Funerals, 8851 Skokie Blvd., (at Niles Center Rd.) Skokie. Interment Shalom Cemetery.
