Good-bye to Don Friedman

Linda and I are extremely sad about Dona's passing, but extremely happy to have known him for over 40 years.

We first met Don and Dixie at the Lake Forest outdoor antiques show. I was looking for ice cream printers cuts and Dixie immediately pointed out the few they had. Don then asked a strange request, he wanted me to go to other dealers that sold antique type and buy the letters A, E, and S. They were sold fast and he was running out.

We became fast friends. As a collector it is great to have a fellow collector to share stories with, talk about that elusive item we were looking for, show off our latest find, and have someone who understands the joy of collecting.

I will miss those many car rides to advertising and other shows where Jeff, Joe, Gordon, Don and I would share stories. Many times the car ride was the most enjoyable part of the outing. It will not be the same without Don.

I remember Donâ??s first New Yearâ??s party, where he served salami and eggs. That was the first time I had them since my mother made them for me when I was a kid.

He had that great T-shirt at one of his birthday parties that said, â??He who dies with the most toys, winsâ?. Well, I guess Don you won.

Don was a great friend and we will all miss him greatly. Someday when we join him, we can continue to swap collecting stories.

Dixie, Alan, Lynn our hearts and prayers are with you.
