Marc and I shared so many things with you over the years, from Chicago Peace Now to all the schools our kids attended together (Gan Yeladim, SSDS, Niles North). You were a vibrant thread that ran through our lives in so many ways, and you radiated humor and a positive energy that will continue to illuminate the world. May all those who love you be consoled.

I only met David a short time ago, but in that brief time that we really connected. David was giving always thinking about what he could do to make our world a better place for the poor. David attended Shabbat service with us and read Torah. When I got the news of his passing, my heart was broken. David will be greatly missed.

I am very sad and shocked about David's passing. I wwas in David's doctoral group, and I got to know him through those 5 years. We did projects together, and had many discussions about what a true democratic education would look like. He never let go of his visions.

Coincidentally, I also teach at Niles North. But I've never had any of his children. Yet every open house, David made a point to stop by my class room and say hi. Many mornings, when I saw him dropping off Sahar at school, he would always roll down his window and say hi from the car. He is such a memorable guy, and...please let me say...an absolute genius whose mind worked in such an amazing way. Always with Cubs on his mind, his ideas were pure philosophy mixed with realism. He never accepted defeat. He strove for peace. He mediated. He was a winner in the truest sense of the word.

I was not good friends with him, and I never had Sahar or Itimar as students. But when I heard of this tragic accident, I felt compelled to write. That's the sign of someone who truly made a difference in people's lives around the world--when you feel the need to express your feelings about someone when you admittedly don't know him that well. We can all only wish we could be like David. His passing is a true shock and I can only offer my sincerest and deep felt condolences to his family.

Through the years David and I would get together and talk about anything and everything. We were point and counter point to each other as business partners and friends. We had lively discussions about marriage, politics, and investing, and we both supported each other through separation, divorce, and our continuing education along with the various jobs we had. I hired David once as a multimedia developer, and years later he helped me get a teaching position at Columbia College, we had each other's backs when needed. We lost touch from time to time, but David was always easy to find and follow. When my wife had cancer and surgery, he called numerous times offering to help out, and although I never took him up on it, we did play catch up and our conversations lifted my spirits. When I found out about this tragedy, I wrote a quick comment on Facebook, but wanted the chance to express my condolences to his family and those that loved him. He was a great friend, and his spirit will be missed.

I met David several years ago when I was Director of Education at BHCBE in Wilmette and we were in search of a teacher for our Hebrew High. David fit the bill, as he was a dynamic, compassionate and creative teacher; his genuine passion for Jewish education and for Israel was felt by all he taught. His move to LA was a loss for us in Chicago, & his tragic untimely death was a loss for his family, his friends, his students of ALL ages, and for all who knew him and loved him.
