I will always remember Ilene's wit, wisdom, and guidance as she helped so many students and colleagues develop themselves in medical education and see themselves as part of a community of scholars. She was truly a leader.

I had the great opportunity to work with her, and socialize with her and her and Morton. Her thoughtfulness and kindness are truly memorable. She will be missed by one and all at UIC. May her soul Rest In Peace.

I learned a great deal from Ilene, especially about how to teach and how to help people reach consensus. She was exceedingly bright and applied her intelligence to help others. She also went out of her way to acknowledge others and build community. I will miss her and offer my deepest condolences to Morty for whom I know she was everything.

Ilene will be remembered for her intelligence, her humor, and her quiet compassionate leadership. I had the privilege of being one of her graduate students and her guidance was thoughtful and practical. She modeled a refreshing approach to leadership with her wisdom and humanity. Her contribution to the way in which medical education is taught throughout the world will be a part of her legacy. My deepest sympathies to Morty, her extended family and to her DME family.

Ilene's kind and supportive words and her immense wisdom live on in the generations of students she has so meaningfully impacted, myself included. Many of her pupils are healthcare providers who are all better teachers, scientists and healers in countless ways because we knew and learned from Ilene. Godspeed, Dr. Harris.

Ilene did a great service to the Department of Pathology over the years by teaching us how to make our teaching better and now we pass that on to our students. Personally, she took the mystery out of teaching and thus made it easier and more pleasurable for me. My sincere sympathy goes to Morty, one of the most supportive husbands ever.

I have wonderful memories of Ilene's time with us in the department and college. Most of all, I appreciated her gentle leadership and unrelenting support of improving ourselves and our common field of study. She was not one to boast about her accomplishments, but rather lend an expert hand to develop the knowledge and skills of her colleagues and students; I will miss her terribly. I pray that Morty will feel a sense of community and support from all of us that so loved Ilene.

I knew Ilene as my mentor at the MHPE Program, conducted at the Department of Medical Education, UIC. She mentored me through out my thesis. She was a very dedicated and hard working person. She was at the same time very kind, generous and loving to her students. I had her as my referee in the list of references on my resume. May God bless her soul and rest her in eternal peace.

Ilene shaped generations of medical educators through her leadership of the MHPE program. These countless educators have, in turn, touched the lives of thousands of learners who have touched the lives of hundreds of thousands of patients. Ilene's impact is tremendous and lasting. Not a day goes by when I don't use something I learned from her - from how to qualitatively analyze program evaluation comments to designing an assessment tool. I owe much of the joy and happiness I have in my career to her mentorship and wisdom. She will be missed.

I was heartbroken to hear this news. Ilene was a guiding light in the field of medical education professional development. Her commitment to the MHPE program was unparalleled: she helped guide us as we considered how to approach further training related to health professionsâ?? education; she taught with passion and focus; she gave specific, detailed and insightful feedback on every single piece of work we submitted; she held us to the highest standards yet always showed compassion for our struggles and attempts to find balance; she stimulated and facilitated dialogue and critical thinking; and she always made me and my colleagues feel like we belonged and had much to contribute to the field. Ileneâ??s legacy will live on in the legions of educators she mentored, taught, uplifted, advised and guided. Deepest condolences to her beloved husband Morty, her family, and to everyone at UIC-DME. May her memory be a blessing.

I will never forget how welcoming and supportive Ilene was towards all of the students who were fortunate enough to work in the Department of Medical Education. She was a wonderful leader and mentor. She was always willing to provide guidance even when I was an undergraduate and still far removed from the realm of medical education. As a fourth year medical student and an aspiring clinician educator, I can say undoubtedly that Ilene and the department she so lovingly chaired have shaped me into the person that I am today. I will always remember her talent for creating community and only hope that I can be half as good at it someday. I consider DME my home because of her.

Ilene was an inspiration to me. She was intelligent, driven and dedicated, while at the same time she was a woman with a kind, loving, and generous spirit. The world will not be the same without her. You will be deeply missed, Aunt Ilene.

Iâ??ll remember my Aunt Ilene as someone whose incredible intellect, dedication, and work ethic was only matched by her generosity and kindness. The wonderful sentiments written by her colleagues convey the great impact she had on her field and those who had the privilege to work with her. She also was a woman with a great appreciation for fine art, culture and cuisine. She faced her struggle with cancer with courage and resolve and was the type of person to make the time and effort to send birthday presents to my young son even as she had so many bigger things to deal with. Ilene was a wonderful wife, colleague, leader, mentor, and aunt and will be missed dearly.

Ilene will always be remembered as a teacher, a mentor, a supporter, an inspirer and most of all as a kind hearted human that genuinely cared for all those around her at all times. She was always the wind that filled our sails and made us aspire to be better educators and as better persons!
