Arnie was a regular customer at my Skokie violin shop in the 1990s. It was always a pleasure to chat with him about his musical activities, and I enjoyed many of his performances with the Grant Park Symphony. Arnie was a fine violist and a kind and gentle man.

Arnie was a very special person! I feel very fortunate to have been his friend and musical colleague for so many years. Together with his dear wife Joyce, I had the opportunity to make music with extraordinary professionals. Aside from his skills as a violist/violinist, Arnie was a true mensch. He rarely missed my birthday when he called with good wishes.
He will be sorely missed!!

I’m proud to have known Arnie. I have so many fond memories growing up and being with him at least every Shabbat and holidays. He was the gold standard. A true Mench. He will be missed.

Dear Joyce and family,
I was so saddened to hear about Arnie's passing - ironically I was informed by my best friend whose last name is also Sklar (he was a student at New Trier in the early 1990's when Arnie led sectionals/rehearsals there). My first job after college in 1999 was as an assistant orchestra director at Glenbrook North and South High Schools, and it was during that time when I first met Arnie. He couldn't have been a kinder and more generous and supportive colleague and mentor to me - as a 23-year-old who knew very little about teaching teenagers at that time in my career, I benefited tremendously personally and musically from Arnie's generosity and expertise. I will always cherish my interactions with him during those early years of my teaching career, and I know that I am a better teacher because I knew Arnie back then.
Sending you my sincere condolences for your loss,
Timothy Mah

My deepest condolences to the Sklar family. My family lived down the street from them most of my life, and my dad and Arnie were good friends. He was a very nice man and a great musician May his memory be a blessing.
