OBITUARY
Norma Anderhous, 96. Beloved daughter of the late Sam and the late Mary Camber. Loving wife of the late Bernard Anderhous. Cherished sister of the late Phyllis Camber. Beloved mother of Susan (Brian) Mazany, Michele (Matthew Custer) Anderhous and Wendy Anderhous, and grandmother of Beckett Anderhous-Custer.
Norma was well known for her quick humor and endless energy. She was genuinely interested in people and cared about them - many who met her would become immediate friends. She loved children and shared art and reading in elementary schools. She was involved in and led many groups helping to improve the community through the arts, music, gardening, discussion, and caring for the underserved.
Born in Chicago, she knew the city well. The streets, the arts, the beaches, music, theater, opera, and restaurants. Renowned in her neighborhood for her flower gardening, it reflected her love of color, which extended into her talent for fashion. She was an avid reader and a talented cook. A voracious learner, she took classes at the University of Chicago and later the Center for Life and Learning.
Norma had a deep love for her family and treasured the time she spent with them. Although they met later in life, her connection with Bernie was instant, powerful, and irreplaceable. She was a model of a strong, independent, and involved woman for her three daughters. She frequently shared her love of art, museums, and literature with her grandson, Beckett. She was especially close to her sister, Phyllis, whom she called Sister and to whom she was Sis. She left an indelible influence on us all.
