OBITUARY

Ted “Teddy” Barkow, age 83, passed away on December 26, 2020, in Alhambra, CA, ending his long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. Born on March 4, 1937, in Chicago, IL, he was a Chicagoan to the bone and in his heart and soul. Ted loved to play golf, root for his beloved White Sox (and saw them win the 2005 World Series, the first two games in person!) and Bulls, discover new restaurants, laugh, and above all else, spend time with his family. He had an intense zest for life, was an entertainer, and was the life of every room. He worked hard and took pride in the company he established and ran, Albar Products, Inc., in Chicago and later Park Ridge, for decades. He is survived by his children, Allison (Saviano) and Tony, and his grandchildren, Declan and Elena Saviano and Nate Barkow, who all knew him as Poppy, and by his brother, Alvin Barkow. He was predeceased by his wife, Barbara, his parents Harry and Gussie (Strinel) Barkow, and his brother William Barkow. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, January 10th, 2021 at 11:00 AM (CST) to attend via live stream, please visit our website. I remember when our families went to Mexico together. Teddy, Tony and I went fishing and didn't catch anything but saw other people catching giant sailfish in the ocean. We had played tennis together another time and I remember Teddy hurting his back or throwing his back out and all we could do was laugh. He was swearing up a storm and I have a picture of Teddy holding his back and walking funny. (he was in his mid 40's?)

I went to grade school and high school with Teddy. He was ALWAYS "ON" and his classmates loved it. He taught me how to smoke, unfortunately when we were freshmen. It took 41 years for me to give it up. I loved Teddy for his humor and for his continuing friendship over the years even though we didn't keep in touch. When we saw one another at a reunion he always greeted me as an old friend. I know he will be missed by both family and friends but they will be comforted knowing he is at peace and again with his beloved Barbara.
