OBITUARY
Louise Rann Rosenblum of Evanston, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at the age of 96. Despite the challenges of age, Louise continued to live at home and lead a fulfilling life, surrounded by loving caretakers, dear friends and family, taking walks on the Northwestern University lakefront campus, visiting the Botanical Gardens, Chicago Art Institute and of course, Walker Bros. Original Pancake House! Until she was no longer able to, Louise was an active member of WiseUp: Aging With Attitude and “Olli” (Osher Lifelong Learning Institute) where she took memoir, current event and music classes and supported programs for aging at home. She was a dedicated and compassionate therapist during more than twenty-five years at NU student health service, where she co-founded the first groups to support grieving community members and students struggling with alcoholism. Louise had a long career as a social worker at various hospitals in Evanston and at Northwestern Student Health Service, where she retired at the age of 75.
Louise was born and raised in Manhattan, the fourth daughter of Lillian Sanders and Nathan Rann. Her beloved sisters all predeceased her. She attended Julia Richman High School, graduated from Hunter College and received her MSW at Columbia University School of Social Work. She was married 60 years to the late Professor Victor Rosenblum, whom she met at a sweet sixteen party in the Bronx, where Victor grew up. Victor taught political science and, then, law at Northwestern for nearly 50 years. Louise and Vic had an amazing life, which included eight children together, as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Some will gather Friday, December 31, for a private service and interment and a larger celebration of Louise’s wonderful life will be held when it is safe for all to gather again – hopefully next spring.
