OBITUARY

Anthony "Tony" Richard Grosch, 86, passed away due to natural causes in Chicago, IL on May 31, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. Born to mother Harriet and father Anthony, he was a devoted older brother to his loving sister Christine (the late John) Jurowicz and Uncle to Hannah (Dathan) Brown. Survived by his wife of 56 years Susan (Myers), son Adam Grosch and daughter Julie (David) Benson, and cherished grandchildren Shane and Sloane who adored their "Poppi". Tony began a life of service as a member of the (25th Infantry Division) in the U.S Army before graduating from Chicago Teachers College, beginning a decades long career as a Chicago Public School teacher where he was a favorite teacher to students and colleagues alike. Tony loved that many former students would stay in touch and he took great pride in their continued studies at esteemed Universities all over the country. In 1984 he received "Outstanding & Inspiring High School Teacher" recognition from the University of Chicago as voted by his former students. Tony also earned a Master's Degree from Roosevelt University, and a PhD from Northwestern University, while raising his young family. He capped off his career in education as a lecturer at the University of Illinois-Chicago where he was voted by students as an "Outstanding Teacher." Tony was a true gentleman and greeted everyone he met with a smile. A caring husband to his devoted wife Susan, a dedicated father to Adam and Julie, he was truly thrilled by any and all of their milestones and accomplishments, along with those of his niece, Hannah. Tony set a wonderful example for all with his incredible work ethic and generosity towards others. He was a voracious reader with a personal collection of thousands of books, and had a rule to never leave home without a book in hand. Tony loved taking public transit and would take his kids and grandkids for rides on the trains to tour the City. He was an exercise enthusiast, mastering skiing as an adult and enjoyed many trips to the Rocky Mountains, most recently to celebrate his and Susan's 50th wedding anniversary with his family. Private services were held. Tony elected to donate his body to the Anatomical Gift Society.
