OBITUARY

Richard (Rick) H. Kruger, 69.

Beloved father of Erica Kruger (Scott) Near and Daniel (Brooke) Kruger. Proud grandfather of Lital Meira Near, Ayelet Miriam Near and Amalia Yael Near. Dear brother of the late Midge (David) Kra.

Rick passed peacefully at the age of 69, this morning, June 6, 2023, at Highland Park Hospital in Highland Park, IL. Born in Springfield, Massachusetts our dad lived an extraordinary life filled with family, friends, laughter, and love.

Following in his father's footsteps he was a proud graduate of the University of Virginia (Go Hoos!) and received his MBA from Syracuse University. Upon graduating he went on to have a successful career in marketing, working at Procter and Gamble, Hinkley and Schmidt and Jensen. Later in his career he followed his passion for Jewish communal service and Israel raising money for the Jewish National Fund, Tel Aviv University and Hadassah Hospital.

Rick was also an active congregant of North Shore Congregation Israel in Glencoe, IL for many years proudly serving in a multitude of roles including, Brotherhood President, Executive Board Member and High Holiday Usher Chair for decades.

He was a pillar in the North Shore Chicago Jewish Community and was blessed to be surrounded by friends and family who loved him. May his memory be a blessing.

Interment will take place on Thursday, June 8, 2023, at 1:00 pm ET in West Springfield, Massachusetts at Beth El Cemetery (366 Kings Hwy, West Springfield, MA 01089).

Please join us for a memorial service on Sunday, June 11, 2023, starting at 3:00 PM CT at North Shore Congregation Israel (1185 Sheridan Rd, Glencoe, IL 60022). The service will be followed by Shiva at Chicago Jewish Funerals, 8851 Skokie Blvd (at Niles Center Road) Skokie, IL from 5PM – 9PM.

Back in the day, my late husband and I got to know Rick thru the Usher Corp. He always had a smile on his face and warmth in his heart. I am shocked and deeply saddened by Rick's passing. May his loved ones be comforted with meaningful memories and may those memories be for a blessing.

I'm shocked and saddened to learn that Rick has passed away. He was an exceptional man. Gracious, humble, dedicated, approachable, positive and caring. Seeing and greeting him on the High Holidays was always such a comforting aspect of the NSCI service. He will be missed by many. May he rest in peace.

When Karen and I were "synagogue shopping" by attending a Friday night service Rick was there and immediately recognized us as strangers. He immediately put his arms around us and made us feel welcome and shared with us why NSCI would be a good home for us. More than 25 years later he was right. We grew to be friends and shared many events together at NSCI. His dedication to his Judaism and our synagogue was profound and inspirational. He will be missed by many.
