I am a friend of Edie's daughter Sandy Woycke, my freshman year roommate at UW-Madison, and her husband Bob. I have fond memories of both Mr. and Mrs. Shanken coming to visit Sandy. Edie was a lovely lady of elegance, and refinement, who donned tailored pantsuits and thoughtfully brought Sandy bags of Clinique skincare products, (although I always thought Sandy's skin was perfect), a typical gesture of the Shanken's generosity. They were not only kind but unassuming people who both deeply loved their children. Courtney was more talkative, Edie was soft-spoken, and they complemented each other so perfectly. My condolences to the family, and this may run counter to spiritual beliefs, but I'd like to think they are both together again because that kind of love supersedes life itself. God bless you all.
