I loved you as a friend, as a fellow Fishachs as a companion and just for being Bert.

We are so sorry about your father. He will be greatly missed.
His sons were his pride and joy. He never stopped talking about
them. We still remember his days as a Cub Scout leader.

My cousin Burt was the best cousin ever! Always a world class storyteller, Burt was so kind and had an incredible sense of humor. I cannot recall a single time that he was angry or raised his voice. Seriously! A fantastic fisherman and sports fanatic, he told stories of Gordie Howe and even remembered our grandfather’s short talk with Albert Einstein . Burt was and will always be the voice of calm and we will miss him terribly. Rest in peace cousin, and give hugs to Fern, Sara, Joe, and the rest of the family now in heaven.

Burt was my very first hockey coach back when I was 8 years old. And even just sitting on the bench, I learned a lot from him.

He was a great guy. Always had time for a chat, and always took a real interest. And Burt, if you can read this: I'm sorry I broke your fishing rod when Rob and I went camping.

Rob and Jay,, my sincerest condolences. Take care you guys.

I’ll always have fond memories of Burt. They go back to Am Shalom’s early days, before there was a permanent home, when services and holidays were held wherever space could be found—from the Glencoe Women’s Club to Central School. Our families sat near each other—the Bachko men, easy to spot with their red hair, always flanking their pretty and friendly mother, Fern, Burt’s wife.

I was just one of many of Burt’s sons’ friends, but he was a real presence, and I always genuinely enjoyed seeing him. Over the years, I’d run into him at the gym and around town, and he was always proud to talk about his two sons, Rob and Jason. I’ll remember his bearing—broad-shouldered, solid, a good-looking guy who carried himself in his own way.

A great guy, and a lot of us are thinking about him now and feeling his loss.

My heartfelt condolences to Rob, Jason, and Burt’s many loved ones—and to everyone who loved their dad.

Beautiful memories of 20 years going up to spring Green together, golf, at the beautiful Frank Lloyd Wright style resort, the players theater,…
Bird always had a favorite restaurant on the way home.

Watching the final day of the masters tournament at our house for years. Going to a Cubs game around the time of Fern and Sharon‘s birthday and realizing that both Joel and Burt unbeknown to them had put Ruthie birthday greetings on the scoreboard.
