Henriette Eshkenazi, 93

Beloved wife of the late Isaac Eshkenazi. Loving mother of Sarah (Andrew) Topus, Abe and Moses (Therese). Proud Nuna of 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Through Sarah: Michael (Kathleen) and children Nathaniel, Maxwell, and Theodore; Lauren (Mark) and children Alexander and Tobias (bonus sons Dakota and Jacob); Lindsey (Josh) and children Avery, Isabelle, and Ellsie; Samantha (Adam) and children Julian, Archie, Sloane and bonus daughters Sarah (David) with children Hayden, Micah, and Jonah; Hannah (Andrew) with child Benjamin. Through Abe: Brittany (Devon) and Tyler. Through Moses: Scott (Julie) and children Parker and Hudson; Steven (Martine) and children Drew and Charlotte; Aaron (Kathryn) and children Ellie, Piper, Alaina, Olivia. Henriette is a loving sister to Jack, Avram, Moshe, and Zaki and survived by her loving sisters Vivi and Luna. She will be sorely missed by many nieces, nephews and cousins. All my long distance cousins will remember this story well. When we were little we all met in Israel each summer and it was the best time of our lives , until one year a second apartment opened up in Yaffa and Abraham’s building and the kids got to live in it . It was amazing up until aunt Henriette came upstairs with a cleaning supply bucket and a toilet plunger and put us all to work ! For years we were all terrified of her but that changed once we got to know her and love her. I visited her a few years ago when she was in Florida and she was as spunky as ever. I will miss her dearly.

I will always cherish my memories of Henriette when she was volunteering at the Sephardic Synagogue in Evanston. We worked together for many years. She was always smiling and happy but strict with kitchen rules and everyone who knew her knew it.... Even the kids who tried to sneak into the kitchen for goodies. But she also had a soft heart and she always ended up giving them what they came for. She was very effective and organized. She will be missed. May her memory be for a blessing.

Some of my earliest memories of Henrietta go back to our summer holidays in Israel, where she quickly earned the nickname “Big Chief” because she was so incredibly good at organising us all.
As the years went on, she formed a truly wonderful relationship with my girls. We all cherished our regular visits with her in Miami, as well as the special times she spent with us in the UK.She was an absolute joy to be around — always up for anything, ready to go anywhere, and more than happy to shop until she dropped. Of course, that often meant letting her take the wheel, which usually turned into a wonderfully terrifying adventure!!
Henrietta possessed a rare, ageless spirit and a beautifully strong character that left a lasting impression on every one of us. We will miss her terribly, but we feel incredibly lucky to have shared so many lovely times and beautiful memories with her, for that we are truly grateful ❤️💔

We think and talk about Henriette every day at our Mahjong games since we are still using her perfectly designed tablecloths she made for our card tables. May her memory be for a blessing. 🙏🙏🙏 RIP

A beautiful force to be dealt with!
A strong lady, a wonderful mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and not to forget a lovely friend.
The Sehardic congregation would not have flourished and been the same without Henriette’’s input and wisdom.
Au revoir Henriette… now rest in peace..

Eventhough she moved to Chicago and was far away from me and all our Florida friends we will miss her and think of her often. She should rest in peace surrounded by Isaac and all her loved ones who're already with Hashem.

My family and I have very sweet memories of our beloved Henrietta with her lively spirit and joy of giving! Shared many nights playing cards which was one of her favorite things to do and was so good at beside her wonderful cooking and baking and not to forget knitting!
We’re blessed to have nice memories of her!!

I was visiting my mom and Henriette was there. My mom was making tea and caught the sleeve of her sweater on fire. The fire quickly spread all over my mom's sweater and before she even knew what was going on I smothered out the fire with a towel. Henriette said "good thing you are here Tom to put out the fire." I responded "good thing you are here so I didn't let her burn". lol... I watched the funeral via Zoom. Abe's eulogy was very nice. Moses looks a little like Zecke. I saw a few familiar faces. Berto and Nadia but not everyone. I can't imagine lowering a lid on a coffin for my mother. My sincere condolences. Bless the big beautiful Eshkenazi family. RIP Henriette!

I have very fond memories of my most wonderful aunt Henriette.

I first met her when she was visiting her siblings, Jack (Yacoub), Avraham, Moussa and Vivi, in England in the early seventies.

She invited me to visit her family in Chicago, and the following year I boarded a TWA 747 as an unaccompanied 12-year-old. I remember spending time in the cockpit and talking to the pilots. Perhaps that experience led to my future career, which brought me back to Chicago frequently 50 years later, when I was able to spend more time with Henriette and my US family.

Henriette was always generous in every way, but especially in the interest and care she showed for others. Those qualities have clearly been passed on to my cousins.

Abe expressed her qualities so beautifully in his moving eulogy, describing how deeply she had enriched her children’s lives. The same could also be said of her friends and extended family.

She truly lived an interesting, fulfilling and purposeful long life.

May she rest in peace.
