OBITUARY
Barry E. Hershman, 81
Beloved father of Lori (Gary) Kranz, Scott (Heather) Hershman and Jodie (Niko) Halazonitis. Proud grandfather of Zachary (Megan) Davis, Chad Davis, Cameron Davis, Alexa Davis, Callie Davis, Amanda Hershman, Samantha Hershman, Abigail Hershman, Alyssa Halazonitis, Taylor Halazonitis and Payton Halazonitis. Dear brother of the late Ellyn (the late John Boelter) Hershman. Barry E. Hershman passed away peacefully on June 9, 2025. He was born on November 29,1943 in Chicago and raised in Franklin Park, Illinois, the cherished son of Seymor and Arline Hershman. Barry attended Leyden Township High School and went on to earn a degree in accounting from Bradley University in Peoria. While at Bradley, he proudly served as president of his fraternity, Pi Kappa Alpha, and met his first wife, Carol (Birnbaum), with whom he had his three children. After graduation, Barry began his career at a major accounting firm in Chicago, but soon joined his father and cousin, Allen Eager, in the Currency Exchange business. Together they expanded the business from seven locations to more than 200 across both Illinois and Florida. He also served for many years as a director on the board of the Community Currency Exchanges Association of Illinois. Barry lived life fully and found great joy in travel, golf, tennis and passionately cheering on his beloved Chicago sports teams-the Cubs, Da Bears, and Da Bulls. He will be remembered always for his warmth, generosity, and enduring kindness. Service Thursday 9AM at Chicago Jewish Funerals, 8851 Skokie Blvd (at Niles Center Road), Skokie. Interment Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Barry E. Hershman Fund, American Diabetes Association, diy-diabetes.donordrive.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=donate.personalCampaign&participantID=53512. To attend the funeral livestream, please visit our website.
