I was terribly saddened to hear of Art's passing. Our mothers were best friends for over 80 years, and I grew up hearing about Art - who was younger than his older brothers and me. I was delighted to (re)connect with Art a few years ago when he courageously joined a woman's book club. We spoke briefly and he was so kind. I’m sorry I missed his Funeral. May God bless him and may he be at peace now.

My brother forwarded Art's obituary to me. Art and I attended Harrison High School together in the mid-1970s and he was in my twin brothers' class (of 1975, classmate of Bob and Brian Miller). But despite being a class apart, we became friends because we shared interests in science and in social improvement. We were at the University of Michigan concurrently, I was a chemistry major and I don't recall what Art majored in but I do remember when we would get together on the diag to talk about all the different things we were doing - he was volunteering at a health clinic and would share stories with me about his patients. I was deep in studying chemistry and math. It was natural that he would go to medical school and I was delighted to hear of his plans to marry Carol. I thought of Art as deeply wise and deeply compassionate and knew how well oncology would suit his love of science and his drive to make people's lives better. I ultimately went to medical school myself at age 38 following a first career in pharmaceutical research, and thought of Art during my own oncology rotations. He was unusually insightful and even after 40+ years of not being in touch with him, he remains admired and has been a guidepost. Deepest condolences to his family and to his community.
