The first time I met Mike we were having dinner together to introduce my brothers and my family to Brandon‘s dad and wife. I got to sit next to Mike . He was a wonderful conversationalist, a great listener, and truly interested in knowing everyone at that table. He also kindly asked if he could finish some of my food I left on my plate because it was some vegetables and delicious meat and then told me about his healthy diet and how much he enjoyed living the way that he did. I know he will be dearly missed.

Dearest Brandon,

It is with deep sadness that I heard of your father's passing. My condolences to you and your family. Mike was a kind and gracious man with a gentle nature. Those of us who worked with him knew his love of laughter and life. You are the legacy he leaves behind. Cherish your time with him. His life was a blessing to those he touched and the memory of him lives on always. Deepest Sympathies.

Mike will be missed by all who knew him. When I think back on some of the wonderful memories we shared. From the Thanksgiving dinners at the Racusins when we were children, to the times we cut classes at Lake View high school and to go to the horse racing track, his smile, humor and vitality comes to life in my mind. Mike was such a kind, caring and compassionate soul. I am so glad that Joani and I were able to spend time with him when we were in Chicago last June. He was in great spirits and upbeat last Monday when we talked, so his death was such a huge shock, I am still trying to make sense of it.

When it came to Mike, you could always count on three things:

If you said, “Come by at 5,” he’d roll in at 4:59—early was on-time.
Open a bottle of wine, and suddenly you had a sommelier at the table. He’d inspect the year, the punt, the alcohol content, declare it “fabulous,” and then—without missing a beat—recommend an even better one.
Leftovers? Not a chance. I don't know where he put it all because he was skinny as a rail. The man could eat. You could see that little glint in his eye every time food hit the table.

I couldn’t have asked for a better father-in-law. Always loving, supportive, welcoming, and never missed an opportunity to reach out during Jewish holidays. When I asked for his blessing to propose, he was so grateful that I thought to ask for his permission that he forgot to actually answer my question. I’m going to miss him—a lot.

Mike,
You were a great friend to me, always extremely kind and generous. I loved discussing sports and global politics with you, since we rarely agreed but were able to hear other opinions and debate the topics respectfully. I’ll miss you on earth, our daily workouts on 1980 stair-stepper machines. May God bless your soul.

I met Mike at a dinner before my brother Jonas’ wedding to “meet the Moskowitz’s.” Mike was warm and fun and seemed so proud of Brandon and so happy for the two of them. He and my Dad — very similar in lots of ways — hit it off and egged each other on. It was a great evening that led to a spectacular wedding. I also know that Mike and Brandon were very close and got together often and as a result he got to know my brother well. He was always kind and thoughtful to him and I know how much he will be missed. May his memory be a blessing.

I always loved when Mike came to visit at Lake Angeles-- cokes, eggs, and all! He was also so incredibly caring and thoughtful, always keeping up to date with what was going on in my life and always being so pleasant to talk to. I remember going on boat rides with him, and Buttons hanging out with him a lot whenever you two came to visit. RIP <3

Michael is my father Arnie’s cousin. I met Michael years ago when he came to Long Island to visit. He was absolutely hysterical and definitely lived up to his reputation. We really enjoyed having him visit. It didn’t go unnoticed how much he loved talking about his kids, and how much Tab he drank. He was very unique and definitely was someone that left a lasting impression. Rest in peace
