OBITUARY

Howard L. Stone, 84

Beloved husband of Susan Stone nee Saltzman. Loving father of Laurie (Gary) Grossinger and David Stone and father- in-law of Andrea Stone. Proud grandfather of Samuel Grossinger, Jacob (Alexa) Grossinger, Sarah Stone and Eli Stone. Dear brother of Robert Stone and the late Ron (Sandra) Stone. Howard Stone held many titles—husband, father, grandfather, CPA, lawyer, mentor, Director of Stone Family Safety, and Pa—yet none could fully capture the uniqueness of his character – he was truly one of a kind. Howard took his first job at seven years old to help put food on his family's table and continued to work until the day he died. He never sought wealth or recognition; his purpose was simple—to build a better life for those he loved. Howard lived for his family. As a loving husband to Susan, he was her steady partner through every joy and challenge – they were a dynamic duo, bringing love, passion, and warmth to everyone they touched. His children, Laurie and David, knew that no matter what, Howard would be there for them. To his grandchildren, he was Pa—the man who took them on late-night “assignments,” sent check-in calls and texts, and made ordinary days feel like adventures. Every conversation ended the same way, “Love you more than the sky (LMTTS).” In his signature vest—pockets filled with Stevia and treats for their dog Saje—Howard cherished simple pleasures: long walks, drives with Susan, and the gift of a new day. He mentored many, helped countless, and believed deeply in doing what was right. His love was constant, his commitment unwavering, and his legacy will live on in those he shaped. We love you more than the sky. Service Friday 1PM at Chicago Jewish Funerals, 8851 Skokie Boulevard (at Niles Center Road), Skokie. Interment Shalom Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Chicago Jewish Day School, 3730 North California Avenue, Chicago, Illinois 60618, www.chicagojewishdayschool.org. A great friend. We spoke almost daily for 30 years. Can’t say in words how I will miss those calls.

Howard was an asset to our building (Parkview Place) from the moment he and Susan moved in! Everyone appreciated his thoughtful advice in and out of our meetings. He was a lovely person and will be sorely missed. May his light shine bright.

Howard and I had such a special bond. I could tell how much he adored me by the twinkle that was in his eye. It was definitely a mutual adoration. Ever since I was five years old, and I met him when David and I walked in the walk for Israel together, I knew he and I had kindred senses of humor. I will miss him so much! It brings me comfort that he will always stay alive in everyone’s loving memories..
