OBITUARY

Marilyn Marks, 93, passed away in Evanston, IL on January 5, 2026.

Marilyn was born in Brooklyn, NY, the daughter of Meyer and Sarah Cohen. Marilyn is survived by her children, Michelle Marks (Lance Clawson) of Bethesda MD and Michael Marks of Evanston IL and two grandchildren.

After completing her Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech Pathology at the University of Iowa, she married Wilbert Bob Marks. Marilyn and Bob worked together as the third generation running their family clothing store, Marks Toggery, in Harvey IL. In 1982, after her husband died, Marilyn moved into the city of Chicago. Chicago offered Marilyn diverse opportunities to satisfy her love of learning, art, theater, and music, as well as access to new friends and welcoming communities, such as Ollie, Chicago Sinai Congregation, NCJW, and her Equinox pool pals. Marilyn loved having season tickets for the CSO, Goodman Theatre, and Opera, and cherished the friends who were her seatmates there. She also loved to travel and savored her trips to numerous countries across the globe.

A memorial service will be held at Chicago Sinai Congregation in the future. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Marilyn’s memory may be made to the Familial Dysautonomia Foundation, Inc. 315 W 39th St, Suite 701, New York NY 10018 or online at familialdysautonomia.org/donate, 212.279.1066. I was so sad reading this notice. I remember Marilyn from childhood. She was one of my favorites of my mother's friends. She had the most wonderful smile -- it would light up a room. She was a model for leading a full life regardless of challenges. Truly a lovely person.

We were always happy to get Marilyn’s RSVPs, to say that she’d be coming to an event! She had the biggest , most beautiful smile! She loved family and she always let you know it…She was a ‘feel good person’! She was always interested in each of us and asked great questions, and remembered things about us between visits…She made all of us feel good. It has been awhile since we spent time together, and I’m so sad that it will be awhile (G-d willing)
until we do again.
Much, much Love to Michelle and Michael and the whole family♥️ Jodi & Rob
