Marla faced Multiple Sclerosis with wit and humor. She loved to laugh and tease those close to her, and was unafraid to express herself. She had keen powers of observation and was an excellent Rummikub player. When she was younger, she sang opera, and music continued to be an important part of her life (she particularly loved listening and singing to 80s music over the past few years). She had compassion for animals of all kinds and loved her sweet cats. Services Friday, 10 AM at Chicago Jewish Funerals, 8851 Skokie Blvd. (at Niles Center Road), Skokie. Interment Waldheim Cemetery. I am so sorry to hear of the loss of Marla. She was a beautiful gift to our Yachad community and I looked forward to talking to her at program every week. Her spunky attitude and determination for life was so admirable and encouraging. I loved each moment she shared her beautiful voice and am so grateful that she got to perform in The Wizard of Oz with us. She will be so greatly missed by myself and all of our community. My thoughts are with you Robin and Aviva.

I remember Marla fondly from my childhood. We were best friends in first and second grade. I loved going to her house to play. It was a home filled with joy and a loving family, not to mention her frisky and friendly black dog. I remember making fluffernutter sandwiches in her kitchen and a slumber party in her basement where we told ghost stories, "light as a feather, stiff a a board"... I think Debi Pomerantz was there a well... we definitely used a Ouji Board.
I was sad to hear how difficult these past years have been for Marla. I can only hope that there is comfort for her sisters knowing that Marla's suffering in this world is over and, with Gd's help, she will now enter the most inconceivably incredible, full and happy after-life in the next one...

Though I didn't know Marla well, she will be missed sorely. She was part of our weekly meditation group here at Barclay place where she lived. We welcomed her and her caregiver, Arnie, every week as core members in our small group. Her presence helped all of us realize her strength. I am so glad Marla felt meditation was something important to add to her life. Miss you, Marla.
