Funeral Details

Dr. Gerson H. Kaplan, age 95, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 17, 2025. He was born in Chicago on February 16, 1930, to Hyman and Dora Kaplan of blessed memory. Gerson was the beloved husband of Ruth Trugman Kaplan of blessed memory for 53 years. He was a loving father to Douglas (Andria) Kaplan, Aryeh (Leah) Kaplan, Bruce Kaplan, and Susan (Kevin Short) Kaplan, and adored grandfather of Eric, Maia, Zachary, Dovid Simcha, Yeshaya, Mordechai Yisroel, and Yedidya Kaplan, as well as Chana Leora (Refael) Bisker. Becoming recently a proud great-grandfather to Chaim Zev Bisker. Gerson, valued family, maintaining close connections with his siblings Sidney Kaplan, as well as the late Miriam Clark and Evelyn Gold. Establishing roots in Hyde Park, Gerson worked for many years within the Cook County Court System, while maintaining Psychiatry coverage at Michael Hospital and Medical Center, and his own private practice in downtown Chicago. Gerson was a brilliant man, great storyteller, and quick witted, many times telling a joke while laughing out loud to the punch line yet to revealed. He will be greatly missed. A private graveside funeral service will be held on Friday, October 24, 2025, at Waldheim Jewish Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Unity Hospice.
