Steven H. Cole, age 82.

Beloved husband of Fran E. Teller, PhD. Dear son of the late Arthur and Shirley (Oppenheim) Cole. Revered brother-in-law of Michael Teller. Fond cousin of Bruce and Karen Kahn.

After graduating from Bradley University in 1968, Steve earned a Master’s of Social Work from the University of Illinois in 1971. He went on to have a career in social work for almost 50 years, working tirelessly in both clinical and administrative capacities. Steve always took pride in his profession and loved to mentor students.

In 1978, while working for the Illinois Department of Mental Health, he met psychology intern Fran Teller. Their meeting began a lifelong partnership, and they recently celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary on June 20th.

Steve was a legend to those who knew him, with a magnetic personality, a quick wit, and an infectious humor that drew people to him from childhood through every stage of life. Fiercely loyal to family and lifelong friends, he cherished every relationship, loved sharing stories, cheering on the Yankees, and embracing adventure – from tennis and rafting to 150-mile charity bike rides.

Service Tuesday 2 PM at Chicago Jewish Funerals, 8851 Skokie Blvd (at Niles Center Road), Skokie. Interment Memorial Park.
