OBITUARY

Mark Tannenbaum
Moshe Mordechai ben Fischel Simcha
May 8, 1953 – November 15, 2025
With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Mark "T" Tannenbaum, a lifelong Chicagoan whose life was defined by an unwavering commitment to the Jewish community, the land of Israel, and a love of Torah and mitzvot. Born and raised in Chicago, "T" spent his defining years at Camp Moshava Wild Rose and the Hebrew Theological College, before going on Hachsharah with Shevet Moriah, who remained some of his dearest friends. For over 35 years, "T" ran a beloved annual Pesach program, Weekend Connections, creating a place where families could celebrate the holiday with meaning, joy, and community. His meticulous care, personal touch, and deep sense of responsibility made the program a cherished tradition for countless participants.
"T" was a proud and active supporter of Israel, Mizrachi, Camp Moshava, and the RZA/RZC. He poured his energy into strengthening the institutions and values he held dear. His work with the CRC and years spent teaching at Cong. Beth Shalom reflected the same spirit—thoughtful, diligent, and always motivated by a desire to contribute to the Jewish people. "T"'s kindness, generosity, and steadfast commitment left an indelible mark on his family, friends, and the broader community. He is survived by his three children Ranan (Shira), Eitan (Batya), and Miri (Eli) and his grandchildren, Theo, Ilan, Margo, and Ezra.
May his memory be for a blessing. Arrangements by Chicago Jewish Funerals - Skokie Chapel, 847.229.8822, www.cjfinfo.com.

I’m so sorry for your loss. Not only was he a good friend and a customer by Pesach time but he also kept our 7am Shabbos morning minyan at Motele, running on time, a tight schedule and didn’t allow for talking no matter what…he will be missed. May his neshma have an Aliyah.

When you saw “T” with the oversized loose leaf binder under his arm you knew he had all the facts and information needed to handle any possible issue that could occur!
Mark always appreciated a good joke! Sh shsh we can hear him laughing right now!

My deepest condolences to the Tannenbaum family.
I first met “T” while working at Grand Geneva Resort and Spa during Passover of 2003. The world of hospitality was new to me, but even with such limited experience, I could immediately recognize T’s incredible dedication to his customers and friends. Over the course of that holiday, he worked tirelessly to ensure the comfort and enjoyment of all those in attendance. I had never seen such dedication and attention to detail from an event organizer.
As the years passed, our close-knit community at the hotel regarded T not simply as another customer, but rather a friend whose annual arrival we eagerly anticipated.
Although his free time during the holiday was always extremely limited, he always found time chat - he was a champion talker. I always enjoyed our conversations - T was a born story teller with a lifetime of knowledge and experiences to share. He spoke passionately of his faith and valued tradition. He loved his family, was proud of his children and was deeply committed to his community.
T’s spirit of hospitality was unrivaled and he loved to share his table with others.
I had the pleasure of attending his Seder one year and enjoyed a wonderful late night of story, laughter, and delicious food which (of course) had all been prepared under T’s vigilant gaze. It was that night that I had (to T’s astonishment) quinoa for the first time - a fact which he laughed about every subsequent Passover!
I will miss him.

It is with profound sadness that we have learned of the pitira of our long time good friend "T'
For many years our family celebrated Pesach with him at Lake Geneva and it was always a pleasure to share these good times with him. He made it a memorable holiday.
Also involved in RZC and Camp Moshava "T" was there when needed. He will be sorely missed by the Chicago community. We hope that his family has many wonderful memories of his life, accomplishments and contributions to Klal Yisrael,... May his memory be for a blessing.
