OBITUARY

B. Robert Gassman (Bob) beloved son of the late Maurice and Pauline Gassman, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, great uncle, and friend passed away on February 14, 2021. He is survived by his loving wife of over 40 years Lynn, his daughters Ilyse (Lee) Brownstein, Bonnie (Tom) McNulty, Brooke (Mike) Collins, Lauren (Michael) Freedman, and sons David Gassman, Brad Gassman and Tony (Jennifer) Gassman. Grandchildren Griffin, Payton, Justin, Hannah, Grace, Shane, Tyler, Emma, Devin, Jacob, Ben and Lily. Brother to Linda (Mike) Cohen, Marvin Gassman and Harold Cohen. Nephews Gary Gassman, Bary (Heather) Gassman. Nieces Nikki (Andrew) Golden and Jana (Othy) Schwerring. Great Nephew Sam and great nieces Lily and Mila. Bob began his life in Albany Park where he grew to become the consummate gatherer of friends who became family. His team of “Little Gents” lasted 70 years and this group who benefitted greatly from his loyal friendship mourns his passing. After his service in the Navy, Bob went on to establish a family accounting practice that spanned over 65 years. The clients who sought his counsel could feel the reassuring presence of his intelligence, creativity, comfort and love. So great was the vessel of Bob’s love that seven children, twelve grandchildren, their spouses and family did not drain his boundless loving-kindness. There are too numerous to count bereft friends who considered him and were loved by him as family. No amount of time on this earth would have been enough for Bob; as his body failed him, his unselfish love and concern for everyone he knew continued to shine. We will miss him always. To keep everyone safe and healthy, the interment service will be private. To attend the funeral live stream, please visit our website. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital, 225 East Chicago Ave., Chicago, IL 60611 would be appreciated. Arrangements by Chicago Jewish Funerals - Buffalo Grove, 847.229.8822, www.cjfinfo.com

I first met Bob in the early 1980's. At that time, our small family business was looking for an accounting firm to handle our business and family interests. At first Bob's business and tax acumen was profoundly evident, but little did I know at that time how truly kind he was. I speak for all of these people, some of whom are no longer with us, by saying that Bob made many friends here and we have no doubt that his legacy will endure.

I have many fond memories with Lynn and Bob. Dave and I took a few trips together with them. I'll always remember Bob's smile. He was a very generous and loving human. He will be missed. My heart goes out to his family. May he rest in peace. No more pain. xoxoxo

When Bob and Mike would come to our offices for business it often felt like we were catching up with old friends. I always enjoyed hearing about the big family vacations Bob would take, his eyes would light up talking about his children and grandkids, I could tell they were close and adored. May the memories of Bob and his love for you give you comfort in your grief. Sending our love ~ Alicia and Steve Erickson
