OBITUARY

Al Stein, age 93, of Olympia Fields, passed away at home on May 12, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on April 11, 1933, in Chicago, Al spent more than 70 years in the automotive business in Chicago’s South Loop. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War, where he was stationed in Germany and worked in the motor pool servicing military trucks.
Al was an exceptionally hardworking man whose greatest priority was always his family. He will be remembered for his generosity, steadfast devotion to those he loved, and his enduring sense of humor.
He is survived by Phyllis, his beloved wife of 69 years; his children, Jodi (Joe Spretnjak), Steve, and Tracy (Scott Brown); and his treasured grandchildren, Jordan, Abbey, Jessica, Emma, and Audrey. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henrietta and Jack Stein; his sister, Doris Solomon; and his daughter-in-law, Bonnie Stein.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Westlawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Misericordia, 6300 N. Ridge Ave., Chicago, IL 60660, or to Jewish War Veterans of the United States of America.

Al was very special; good natured, friendly, fun and caring. And a master in the automotive repair world which was his passion. Someone for whom if you were ever in his presence, you’d never forget him. And always look forward to being with him again. May he forever rest in peace.

Al was a great and accomplished man, I have memories of him with my father when he worked at Elar's with him. Very fun, caring and good natured person, may he rest in peace.
